I always thought the popular stereotype for Ferraris (ok, any sports/flashy car) for men is a lack of "endowment" or low self-esteem... i.e. the car is the make up for a guy's "shortcomings."

Personally, that's a crock of crap... why can't a guy (or a woman, for that matter) like a sports car, especially something as good looking as a Ferrari?

Yeah, if I get a Ferrari, it's not to show off, it's to enjoy the experience of driving it!! (And to show it off)

but anyway I think the biggest stereotype is arrogant prick making up for something lacking like ^ said

The most common stereotype I encounter is the belief that every Ferrari costs over (pinky in mouth) One Million Dollars!!!

People actually get annoyed if you tell them that they could have gotten a used 308 for less than the price of their new luxo-SUV. They prefer to think of Ferraris as "unobtainium".

The media keep referring to Enzos as costing over a million dollars. Original list was around $650K, wasn't it?
(Used prices are another matter. But then, a decent condo around here costs well over a mil, and there are a lot more of those than used Enzos on the market.)

People think I am rich... beautiful car so he must have a beautiful house, big boat, lots of money, etc. I am FAR from rich and don't have a beautiful house (>2000 sq ft). The nicest thing in my house is when I park my 355 in the garage.

People think Ferrari owners are rich snobs.
Ferraris are the fastest (drag) street cars.
Girls are particularly interested in guys driving Ferraris.
Ferrari is made by Ford (mustang :))
Ferraris get terrrible gas mileage (I get around 5 mpg better in the Ferrari than the Infiniti)
Every part on a Ferrari is a special order part.

That my parents are rich and bought the car for me. I actually had a Colonel tell me that. I said “No ma’am I had a well paying job and made smart investments in a former life” it sometimes sucks being a younger owner.

I can only imagine! People say that about my 30k car so I definitely see what you're going through with a car that is multiple times the cost of mine.

    1. They only come in Red, Yellow, or Black.
    2. They all have terrible driving position...
    3. You will get pulled over in one.
    4. They are extremely expensive to repair.
    5. Steering is twitchy
    6. Terrible Gas Mileage
    7. Heavy Clutch
    8. Ferrari only makes one model (I've actually met several people who thought this one was true)
    9. No headroom
    10. Not safe in crashes...

The sad thing is that a majority of the public that still believes these old wives tails. Most were true at a time or in a particular model, but this is not the case anymore. These are just a few of the stereotypes i have heard from non ferrari owner~

Hey now, don't fall into the list of stereotypers. His profile says he has a 3x8.... ~ $40k for a decent example!! I saw the nicest 328-- actually cleanest and nicest aesthetically (I didn't get to test the mechanics of it) and cosmetically used car I've ever seen for only $58k

Exactly-at the time I purchased the 328 I was also looking at a Testarossa, both in my budget, but I decided instead of jumping head into my dream car I would ease into Ferrari with a 328.

BUUUUTTT....like mentioned above, in another post, a 328 is still a Ferrari so it at least had to cost about 80k and I must be mega wealthy.

They could've gotten a 308 for less than the price of their luxo-SUV..but the maintenence would not have been ;-).

Well, you could debate that: SUV "maintenance": Insure on Monday, back into something on Thursday, replace on Saturday ... repeat. ;)

I thought maybe you were going to say to include gas usage in the maintenance equation....

oh, and while the 308 may be cheaper than the SUV, the SUV can hold 5-7 people in it along with their stuff... the 308 can hold 2 people and maybe a duffel bag... ;)
