It sure looks like there's enough room to put a couple of small seats in the back of the 599 (provided someone is ready to spend $$$$). Does anyone know what lurks under that boxed area behind the driver and passenger seats? Is it just empty space? I think a 599 with 612 rear seating would be the best replacement for my beautiful 456 (I can't get used to the 612 styling!).

That would be the boot, right?

But why would you do that - Then you wouldn't have any room to put your luggage.

I have yet to see a 599 in the flesh, so take this for what it is worth (little)...

I would be surprised if it feasible. The amount of legroom would make a DB9 backseat seem roomy. Would have to consider headroom as well,... and my guess is even if the other issues could be worked around... headroom would be the dealbreaker...

However, If you are serious about pursueing this... let us know what you find out.

I think the gas tank might be under that section. Doubtful anyone would be comfortable sitting in that area. A dog might be OK with it.

the design relates back to the 550 or 575 so if ever look at a 550 or 575 you can see that there "could" be rear seats put in too. when ferrari designs their car and calls something a replacement expect major designs to be similar. they will never put in rear seats for a 599!

I'm thinking that'd be either a gastank or trunnk area but, if you are serious enough enquire with Ferrari or Pinninfarina, I'm sure they'd be helpful, as we've seen lately they're more and more open to suggestions :)

At least in the 550/575 that is where the fuel tank is.

Unless you want to drive without a fuel tank I'd suspect it would be a bad plan.

I've emailed Peter Kalikow and will try and get a reference for PF. My experience with fuel tanks is that the trunk/boot is a safe option with a Fuelsafe brand bladder and box setup. I looked into the rear seats conversion with the 550 and it's very possible.

Just curious, what stopped you from pursuing the 550 backseat conversion? And how useable were the back seats with that plan? (compare to an xk8 coupe perhaps...)

I looked into the 550 conversion before I bought my 456. I was extremely busy at the time and just ran out of energy and bought the 456. The configuration of the 550 rear seats was more bench like - very similar to the kinderseats I had in my Mercedes SL (a european option). Seat belts were lap only. For the 599, I would seek something more "complete", similar to the 612 rear seating but just scaled down. I sat in the back of a 612 at Ferrari of Silicon Valley and found it very roomy.

    Gas tank or not...The 599 IS NOT a 2+2!

Why not take just the backseat out the 612 too?

If Peter K doesn't get back with you, and you are serious about exploring the possibilty of Pininfarina doing this for you, all you have to do is send a private message to Fchatter Napolis. He'll likely respond within a day and if anyone can put you in touch with Pininfarina, he can.

Follow up on the rear seats. Yes it can be done - for a large price. Factory modification work is pretty major if the project is "complete" with an increase in headroom as well as integrated shoulder belts. Rear visibility is an issue - rear video and back up sensors are recommended. Trunk and fuel tank not an issue. I spoke with a high-end customizer (perhaps the best?) who would only do it if I signed a letter saying it was only for pets and not children due to liability - his work is very good but he needs at least six months to do it - said he would not need the car the entire time. I decided if I would do it, I would go with the high end customizer because I would have more control over the project and the cost would be significantly less.

I don't get it. What's the point of paying all that money, waiting that long, and not having your car whenever you want it, just so you can put a dog in the backseat?
