    I was looking for a late model of the coupe, either a "B" or "S" and got some conflicting information. Does anyone have the final answers to these questions?

    1. What year(s) were the Series Speciale cars that came with those extra goodies from the challenge cars? Seats were different and mechanicals were as in the Spiders - lower gearing and slightly higher Hp. There were supposedly 100 numbered cars (with dash plaques) and were they all 1993?

    2. It looks like there were few coupes for 1994 and 1995 (partial year) made, but did we get any in the US? Any Berlinettas at all?

    3. I have seen 2 listings for 1994 Series Speciale cars (1 of 15 they said) that had different tail light assemblies - no grills over the lenses. Are these different from the 1993's? There were no plaques on these cars.

    4. I have heard that the late model coupes are the best sorted out and essentially the same as the Spiders. True?

    I can answer #4:

    99% of remaining 348s on the road, regardless of age, have long since been sorted out.

    I don't think the 94 SS cars are different, except that they are a smaller run (15 vs. 100). The info you seek is available on NoDoubt homepage or www.the348.com

    there is a 94 ss avail in silicon valley motors , it just ended 50k- reserve not met . on ebay. i tihnk they want mid - high 50's. it is one serial number behind mine. my car has been awesome . 94 is the way to go ! i feel being its only one of 15 , it will help that little bit on future resale value.. even though it doesnt mean that much in technical improvements..

    Oh, here we go again!!!

    There are a few threads on this. I don't profess to be an expert, but I have done some research as I have a '94 tb.

    Serie Specile model was produced late '92 through '93. 100 were made both tb and ts. In '94 there were an additional 15 Serie Seciale's made in tb and ts. In '94 some if not all SS's had the regular grill on the rear tail lights. In '93 the SS was offered with fiberglass sport seats, but I don't think this was carried over to '94. In '94 there were also 45 "factory" challenge cars (32 tb and 13 ts). These were all US models. There were no other closed cars imported. There were no '95 tb or ts models produced. Only the 348 spider was made in '95. The 355B repaced the 348 in '95.

    There were 200 GTB/GTS models in '93 and '94 for the Euro market. These had the 119H engine with 320hp. As apposed to the 119G for US that had 312hp in '93 and '94.

    So, there are a limited number of tb/ts (175) that were brought to the US. These later models as with any end production cars are thought to be better.

    Beautiful! Thanks Dr.T! There is allegedly another '94 SS at Martin Chevrolet in Torrance. Going to see it. I think they wanted $54K.

    That's not a bad price depending on milage and service. Look for the #'d plaque on the passenger front door frame. It should have X# of 15. And don't worry if it does not have the lip on the front spoiler. They only came on the '93 model.

    The late model 348's have some great updates such as the oil pump bearing improvement, different cam/pulley/bearing updates, different rear ends, battery in the front, better exhaust, better fuel/air software via Motronic 2.7, etc...

    ...but, the early 348's, especially the 1989 models, have metal cam covers instead of plastic, the dual-disc clutch (better for high-power racing), and normal, non-mouse-motor seat belts. They also have a superior clutch-slave/throw-out bearing that can be rebuilt...as well as $15 front wheel bearings (compared to $500 late-model wheel hubs).

    Also, with the 1989 Motronic 2.5 model, the exhaust ECU's don't shut down one or both engine banks (this could be good or bad depending upon perspective and circumstances).

    Update on that car at Martin Chevrolet in Torrance, CA. The car is not a SS model; it is a Berlineta, but what year? Moreover, the floor ppl insisted that the car was not for sale even tho I knew it was. They got ahold of the dealership owner, who had no time to speak with me, and he confirmed that it was for sale on E-Bay. It's not listed there, so I guess that was my blow-off.

    I'm in sales and it's amazing how many ppl in sales have no sales skills whatsoever. Of course, maybe he doesn't really want to sell the car afterall.

    Everywhere I turn the 348 is a conversation piece and desired car to buy. I have noticed a tremendous interest in my car as of the last six months. Don't sell them short. They are great cars when taken care of properly. Oh, they area blast on the road. Enjoy the pictures.

    Interest in 348's is picking up because the market finally woke up and realized it had ignored them for too long. 328's jumped in price, bypassing most 348 models - they are the ultimate in the 308 line even though they don't share much with the '08's. 348 Spiders got the initial interest, now the SS cars are coming out of the closet. Enthusiasts knew them for what they are, but it took a while for everyone else to climb aboard. Knowing what I know now, I would have bought an SS vrs. the Spider and I'd prolly still have it! I noticed my car is for sale and I could get it for less than I sold it. Hmm,...

    hello,

    i think you are right on everything except the fifteen '94 SS's still had the exposed taillights, it was the front "lip" spoiler and the carbon fibre sports seats that weren't available on the '94 SS's (this is an observation from the few that have been posted here and on other sights)

    the 1992 348's (tb/ts) all had suspension upgrades and the battery moved to the front to improve handeling. bhp went from 296 to 300 on the non SS's. (source; car and driver magazine, march 1993)

    I didn't realize it was an inquiry.

    You may be right about the exposed tail lights. Mines a '94 tb challenge and I have the rear grill. I thought I saw a '94 SS with the rear grill for sale. You're right about the seats and front lip.

    I did look at a '92 tb when I bought mine. It still had the battery in the rear. I don't know if that was changed in '93 or late '92.

    EBay recently had 2 1994 SS cars for sale and both had exposed tail lights. Pretty cool, especially if u tried to do the concours cleaning on the grills. ;)
