I didn't make it but I've heard from someone who did go that he thought the crowds were much smaller this year than in years past. Does anyone else agree with this assessment?

Great info, thanks. A formal name change would make sense, then.

In between yapping with Wayne and Ron, I spent most of this Sunday shooting the marvelous cars out on the field. Since then and in between flying home I have worked hard at getting our feature online:

    http://www.***************.com/frame.php?file=event_item.php&rid=90

There are some seriously spectacular shots in there if I say so myself, especially of the Tour. Thanks are also due to Rob Clements and my father who had their trigger finger ready for 12 hours!

Here is the version with sound...be warned though the sound isn't perfect....also this is only the pebble ramp cars...the last car sounds best...

If you want a better sounding version e-mail me and I will send you a higher quality version.

Does anyone know which car Bob Smith Coachworks entered at Pebble this year?

Is there a listing somewhere online of all the cars and by whom they were entered?

I returned home early Tuesday morning, had much to do so I am just now posting my photos from this Monterey weekend.

I do not want to duplicate the other great photos already posted so I hope these are a little different.

First, I went to Concorso Italiano Friday morning to avoid the afternoon crowds (interesting two tone F430), then to the Quail, checked out the Bonham's auction, and finally to the unveiling fo the P 4/5 (thanks James):

Saturday was Laguna Seca for the historic races. So many great cars, even a Trans-Am Mustang that I helped build and crewed back in 1972. Saturday night I went to the RM Auction, primarily to check out the Tucker on the block as I have one to sell (anyone interested?). The Ferrari in the photo with Alan Decadenet is the 412 that sold for $5.1 million (turned down $8.1 million at the Marenello/Sotheby's auction this past spring).

The last photo is my vote for best looking piece of art all weekend.

Sunday I headed for the Pebble Beach Concours rather early. I walked through Retromobile and the Blackhawk display. Check out the $75,000 take home race simulator!

From there you walk down a hill towards The Concours field. I found an all black Veyron, I thought they all were required to be two tone. At the entry of the Concours was the area where the P 4/5 was parked. Quite a few people stopped by to greet James, including Jean Todt. One of the security guards actually asked Jean Todt to leave the area! Shock set in, but he was a gentleman about this.

The Concours is beautiful. Some incredible pieces of rolling artwork:

Anyone have pics of "Best in Show" at Pebble, only before the car rolled across the ramp (i.e., while it was just parked on display)?

I could only make it to Monterey for Saturday and Sunday this year, but still managed to cram in a lot of stuff. On Saturday I started at the RM Auction viewing as they had a yellow McLaren F1 on display to be auctioned that evening. Then I headed over to Pebble to check out the displays there on Saturday before heading to the Historics in the afternoon where another McLaren was on display and the Toyota F1 car was due to set some fast laps. Following that I went back to the RM Auciton to witness the yellow F1 and several other beauties cross the stage that evening.

Sunday started at the Historics again to get better photos of the McLaren F1 that was there. It wears a very unique paint color called "Aubergine" and the bright sun the day before had made decent shots of it impossible. I wandered the paddock for a while then I headed back out to Pebble for all that there was to see there. It was my first Concours d'Elegance and it was a great event. The cars were all beautiful and I met some great friends. :)

All in all, I took over 1000 photos - 290 of which were of the two McLaren F1s. :D The entire set are spread across these three Imagestation albums.

McLarens in Monterey - 290 images:

Monterey Saturday - 255 images (some F1 repeats):

    Monterey Sunday - 495 images:

They're all uploaded at 1024x768, but double that resolution is available if anyone sees something they desperately want larger. My PM box fills up here quickly, so please send me an email at Peloton25-at-Hotmail.com if there is something you'd like.

    Enjoy the pics!

I can't find the photo I took of the entire car, but I did find the photo of where I put my can of Red Bull next to one of its tires to give an idea of their size.

The 24" wheels on the Pimp My Ride cars of today are nothing compared to this.

Here are mine - these were tough to get as the car was rather mobbed through most of the day. This was my pick to win the moment I saw it and as you can see the roof was still up at that time. It looks positively sinister while being beautiful and elegant all at the same time. For anyone who might not know, the car is a Daimler Double-Six 50 Corsica Roadster and it was stunning.

The last two shots were taken once it finally came down off the stage and lined up with the other notables along the coastline.

Great pictures and a nice picture of the start of this race. Notice the blue Porsche spider (dutch owner) in front. It is being driven by 2 times Le Mans winner Gijs van Lennep (1971 and 1976, both times in a Porsche).

Thanks for the great, and comprehensive, photo essay. You have the only P4/5 photos I've seen with the engine lid up, and mechanicals somewhat exposed!

    Well done! - George

Thanks - I was noticing that about my P4/5 photos too. Unfortunately I couldn't get beyond the ropes to get better shots when I saw that, but except for the exhaust (which I'd love to get a look at myself) I am guessing that it all looks fairly familiar under there.
