    "Reality" TV: "challenges"
Want to get abused by sophomoric producers for the amusement of John Q. Pubic?:
"Rich b*st*rd Ferrari owner had it comin'".
(Never let reality interfere with public misinformation.)

The winner: Prolly the Yugo with a wooden wing and a $100K paint job.

Remember: creative editing can work or work against you in front of millions of ppl.

(I was not impressed with the casting director and have respectablely declined her offer...didn't feel like being portraited as that Ferrari Playboy...she kept talking me out of taking the Lotus and really wanted my 430)

Everyone who was on Bullrun '06 and who submitted an application got a call and request to submit a video, if that says something.

Also, as pchop put it, never trust reality TV shows. You think they can really get away with sponsoring a cross-country race for $250k cash? We barely made it across on our private event, and there was no prize, no cash.

There's a twist. There's always a twist. Reality TV these days isn't ever as advertised to the participants -- that model ended in 1998. Think Joe Millionaire....("Ooo girlfriend! I get to go on TV and compete to marry a Millionaire!!!!")...

Reality tv is scripted like every other show. There's nothing real about it.

Sweet. I'm going to rent a Gallardo and tell them it's mine. I want to apply for the role of "the villian". I wonder if it's been filled already? Which one of you if going to play the "gay Ferrari owner"?

You'll sign over all of your "privacy rights" (if they even exist constitutionally, you give it up anyway explicitly), along with your life story/biography rights (incl future events), and you'll probably have to sign them over a portion of any future proceeds from sponsorships or shows if the reality show happens to make you a celebrity.

Odds are if you appear on this thing you may as well sell off your dignity and soul too.

A fool and his money soon part... same may go for exotic car owners who seek to be on some TV program. As was said earlier, they can make you look like a hero or a fool via editing. My guess, the Ferrari guy loses, Lambo wins, or perhaps a ricer as ricers are a larger market THEY MIGHT BE SEEKING due to advertising dollars. Have you ever seen a Ferrari or Lambo TV advertisement in the past, oh, decades or three? Ricer car and tweak product suppliers have $$$ to burn.

HAVE A LAWYER CAREFULLY LOOK AT ANY CONTRACT!!!!

Frankly, i see only one outcome and it aint pretty guys. Then again perhaps Ferrari could use a 'reality check' :)

Just some warnings from someone who spent some time representing performers, including several on major reality shows. When you see the nearly 150pgs of contracts these people sign, and spend weeks going through them with a fine-toothed comb, and try to negotiate with the producers for a better deal ("take it or leave it"), you'll know what I mean!

The producers are genius though, if there is ANY way to make money or a future income stream from you, you bet it's in there. From the aforementioned cut of your sponsorships and owning your biography rights in all media, to a 5-10% override on your talent management deal (which they will arrange for you), to lowball performance fees on their promo tours and any future television appearances you have, they have their fingers in there. And that doesn't even include things where the talent isn't directly involved, like advertising and corporate sponsorships for the show, a cut of the revenue from text message votes, DVD sales and syndication, etc.

When/if you get the contract, how about scanning it into PDF so we can look at it? Or don't... look forward to seeing you in the program and the way it turns out. Enjoy :)

As a musicians have seen people get totally sc&#wed big time. Please, for goodness sake hire a lawyer and see what he feels about the contract and do not fear editing or adding in your own terms. If they say take it or leave it, you already KNOW how they <cough> value you <cough>.

I saw what "reality tv" did with their version of the "cannonball".

You know what they say: "Don't try this yourself." ;)
