I was watching Test drive yesterday and the had the SLk55 AMG F1 safety car nowwe have the CLK 63 AMG. I was wondering if mercades/AMG had a contract with the FIA to supply safety cars, or could ferrari outfit a 430 or a 599 and petition it to be the new safety car. i think it would be cool to see another ferrari on the track (Once in a while)

That's awesome, but like mentioned before, I would like to see a 599 doing the job.

Nah. It would look bad if the SAs were lapped by the safety car. ;)

And what do you mean "once in a while"?
The Mercedes safety car has led more laps this year than the McLaren. :p

If the Safety Car gets up to 60 led laps, do they get 10 points? (Which would put them ahead of the SAs, the Midlands, and the STRs, and in close competition with the Williams) :D

Yes they have a contract. Tho as mentioned sometimes with enough money and twisting of "Bernie" arms you can have other cars. Like the Countach was only used for the Monaco GP back in the early 80s and I think the Diablo was a one off for the Canadian GP.

It would be cool to have different cars, based on the country they are in. Ohh well.

They had an F430 as the safety car at a 360 Challenge race I went to about a year ago. Pretty cool.

When I went to the 2002 Canadian GP...They were using NSX's. And every other race was the Mercedes line-up.

Mercedes can also furnish all the various types of vehicles used by F1 whereas the majority of other manufacturers can't do that.

Since 1996, mercedes is furnishing the safety cars to the FIA. The FIA wants to have a fast car and a professionnal driver. The years before, every circuit had their own safety cars, which were mostly too slow and the F1 cars had temperature-problems about the tires, driving slow behind the safety-car. Some people in F1 say, that Senna's accident was caused by the slow safety-car, two laps before his crash. The safety-car in Imola 1994 was a Fiat Tempra with around 120hp only. The 612 Scaglietti was the safety during ferrari Days in spa, this year.
