This year is my first year going to the race and Im going with my dad and sister. I noticed the $60 3-Day season pas where you can see the practice, qualifying, and the race. My question is, even though you have that kind of a ticket, is there still a chance to meet the drivers and get autographs somewhere? If I buy that ticket will I get to choose my place in the stands or does it give it to me? Has anyone done this before? Any advice welcome.

That 3 day pass is for general admission for the race; pick a spot in the infield. Otherwise when they open the tickets up for general sales (renewals are next month, I doubt you can get first-timer tickets till they're all assigned) you buy a Sunday ticket for a specific grandstand and the Fri/Sat is a separate $25 charge.
Driver autograph sesssions are pretty hit-or-miss, I'd say, anything from Thursday during the Pit Walkabout to during the weekend at scheduled events in the midway. You'd do just as well for those with any kind of ticket.

There are autograph sessions during Thursday, you have to be there early to get the armbands that let you come back later for autographs. Nobody cares what ticket you have for those sessions.

in 2005 we had the 4 day pass and on race day staked out a spot at the end of the short straight in the turn 8-9-10 complex. We were there at 6 AM to get a decent spot. Fair warning, you can't see the big TV screens from the infield.

The 3-day pass provides excellent viewing spots in the infield, I believe better than the grandstands, however, since the security around the paddock and pits is very tight, getting close to drivers and other celebrities is a matter of luck and patiente.
If you stand, long hours, before and after practices and race, in front of the gate where every body must get through you might be able to get some autographs.

Thanks for the information. I think its cool that you can pick a spot, but the grandstands would be cool. I suppose the back straight in the infield wouldnt be bad though, after Schumacher wins he could see me salute him better.

One more question, with that 3 day pass, assume I got to the track at about 6 in the morning, before any practice session started. I can just pick any spot in the infield and then walk around the whole track? And if I do that, is there any autograph sessions besides Thursday? Or maybe that TV show with the Speed Channel announcers on the stage...? Again thanks for the previous advice and any future advice to come.

With some exceptions, the only reserved seating is on Race Day. It's the only day you have to choose where you sit. For the race, spend the extra money and buy your tix from the Ferrari Club, and sit with the real fans (also the best seats in Stand H).

Getting autographs at an F1 race is very difficult. You might be better off waiting in downtown hotel lobbies for driver's to walk through after dinner. I just happen to ride down a hotel elevator with Michael Schumacher this past June. After he got out, he would not sign any more autographs as he was running late.

As far as Tickets go, everyone else has you updated on that. But what's this 6am crap? Gates don't open 'til 7am. Stands H & J are your best bet. Was in J last year. This year was in Paddock at Start/Finish but got stuck to far under that I was unable to see the big Jumbo screens. IF I go next year I'll go back to J or H. I won't bring a film camera. I'll bring a digital. The wife yesterday started thinking about going abroad and incorporating an extended vacation.

Getting Autographs is extremely hard. You have to put up with the Morons that are there all morning at the gate and cry like a beyotch because they didn't get someones signature. They get extremely impatient and push 'til someone knocks over someone and MS gets pissed off, throws down the pen and walks away. Last year they knocked the fence over on Thursday and MS didn't come out the rest of the weekend to sign after that. On Thursday, at least this year you had to get a wrist band. They were supposed to pass them out at 8am, I got there at 7:20 and they were all pretty much gone.

Your better off finding out where your favorite driver is staying and playing the waiting game or just get lucky like tifosiron and happen to be in the elevator. Lucky Bastage! I was fortunate to get FM and Ross Brawn to sign my Enzo 1:18.

Friday and Saturday sessions are all general admission--even the grandstands. You'll be able to move around and check out different views, which was the smartest thing they ever did. Definitely take advantage of that, but you don't need to get there at 6am on Friday or Saturday.
