I've searched the archives, and have read a fair amount of info on GT4 mirrors. I have decided that the mirrors currently on my car have to go. For starters, the LH mirror is floppy and resists every attempt I've made at correcting it. Today, I even bought a tube of contact cement at the autoparts store when I was picking up some fuel line. I've since "seen the light", though, so don't worry - no glue will touch my Ferrari's door.

At any rate, I've decided to purchase new mirrors. OEM on the '79s were Vitaloni Californians, I believe. Superformance has a great price on these right now at ~$78USD + s/h (38.50GBP), which beats $49.99 each at Pegasus and $129.99 "Buy It Now" for a couple sets on Ebay. The only problem - the Vits are black, and my current ones are chrome. I *really* like the chrome mirror look - I think it is a nice touch along with the other "brightwork" around the door, windows, etc. - but I don't like the plasticy look/feel, and I *really* don't like the "Made in Taiwan" stamp I found on the underside.

Now...I understand that the early GT4s had a single chrome "bullet style" mirror, but if I wanted to go with that look, I'd need 2 because I've already got existing holes in the passenger door. What I need to do is determine which mirror(s) I want to go with. The Vits seem the most logical (and easiest/least expensive to source), but I just need to convince myself that it'll look okay before I spend the green.

I think that if I see enough pictures of GT4s with them, maybe I can convince myself to get past the fact that they're not shiny. :p Thanks so much....

    IMHO

If the chrome have a better view, go with them.

The Vitaloni's have a very narrow field-of-view and very easily get out-of-whack. They also take some, 'getting-used-to'.

Uh-oh, reopening a 16 year thread on a decisive subject may be cause for alarm!

The whole "my mirror is the official GT4 factory one" argument can be market dependent, IIRC, US cars where imported sans mirror with the dealer adding them (or just one) at the point of sale. Which style mirror was whatever the dealer had on hand, the most popular at the time or brought the most profit. Throw in the fact that many GT4's sat on the dealer's lot for an extended period of time possibly into the period of the next mirror fad.

For the record my 1977 GT4 has mirrors like those posted by EuroDino, IMO the best mirror for the GT4. For me the black plastic mirrors, especially the ones with the accordion/concertina style rubber boot, look out of place on the GT4. Let the arguing begin.

This discussion has been revisited a few times at least, and the final answer is always the Cromodora Astro III. To be super correct you need to find an early example with the stamped data at the bottom of the mirror. Later versions are identical but the info is on the back of the mirror at the pivot point. they can be tough to find, took me about six months.
