    Just curious?

I am not talking about driving around like a mad man but for example I have seen this yellow 430 around town a few times so its driven regularly, came up upon a bottle neck of traffic while in my 355 this morning in a 6 lane road, this guy in a yellow 430 was going slower than the speed limit or just under it, general traffic flows usually 10-15mph faster than posted speed limits here, several cars of course would not pass him as they wanted to gawk at it blocking all 3 lanes, fine but I don't particularly like being boxed in myself as this was creating the same situation for me as I had to go slow, too many close calls with gawkers not paying attention so I prefer to keep my distance from them.

Finally got a break and got beside him and blew by at 7000+ rpm, he looked like someone just shot his puppy as I looked over at him and he at me, I just don't get it, I think it looks foolish driving so slow blocking traffic in an exotic.

I also saw this happen a month ago with a guy in a blue Diablo doing the same thing, going slow blocking traffic, was in my pick up that time though unfortuneatly.

Again I am not saying drive like a maniac but just keep things going abit and drive the car like a man and don't be afraid of it.:)

There's all types in this world. Some will take their million dollar plus 250 GTO and tear up the race track. Somewhere in the world, a brand new Ferrari sits in the garage...undriven.

...a wine collection they don't drink
...a well manicured lawn they don't step foot in
...a swimming pool they don't use
...furniture nobody is allowed to sit upon

everyone is different(if that is a safe choice of word)

Perhaps one more speeding ticket and he'll lose his license? Some exotic cars owners keep close to speed limit on public roads and express their driving ability at proper track days. The more days i enjoy on the track the more i realize how many less than talented or aware people are on public roadways. Jane Mobile Makeup Artist while talking on her cell phone is but one of many examples. Add to that, public roads have things called children, blind spot galore SUV's, old people with bad eyesight, etc.

A vast amount of American drivers IMHO have virtually no real knowledge of vehicle dynamics and HOW their vehicle handles at the limits. European drivers, particularly Italians and Germans, are much better than their USA counterparts.

Maybe the other guy was a bit angry that you feel the need to illegally speed? On public roads i have learned my lesson, but now and then some ricer or others test my patience about wanting to race on public roads. When i refuse to race them, especially true with immature kids, they seem to feel i am a 'p^ssy.' Umm... would love to see them at a track event so we can have a go. Doesn't matter if they are faster, that's cool with me. The point is, we are doing it within a proper environment.

And BTW, the above comes from someone who has indeed lost his license for a period of time due to alleged driving techniques on a public highway that was far from residential neighborhoods.

But he wasn't the one blocking traffic. It was the gawkers.

Q: Why would a Ferrari be driving just under the limit in the right hand lane?

    A: Valentine 1. ;)

I used to think the same way, in my youth, when I'd blow past a Ferrari with my little four banger Alfa or Fiat. Now that I'm an old fogie myself, I find that I don't have anything to prove on the street.

Maybe the guy had a horrid case of the poo's and if he hit a bump to hard he would explode all over his expensive leather.

Maybe he was pacing you for a quick street race but you floored it with a "ricer flyby" in traffic and this thread is your attempt to save face just in case he posts here.

Maybe he was getting a blow j... and he was chillin.

Maybe you have "new model Ferrari envy" and this is a way to somehow beat him down becasue you can only afford a 355 while he was ballin in his 430.

    :) :)

Sometimes one feels like a hooligan. Other times, one is just cruising.

I'm sure the guys in the trio of rice rocket Honduhs thought I was a 'little old lady' yesterday when I wouldn't engage, but honestly I was relaxing and enjoying my music -- just didn't feel like being stupid at that moment.

Maybe he was trying to keep the judge from making good on his promise to take his license on the next visit to traffic court.

Who cares anyway? Do you have to drive fast to enjoy a good car? I think anyone with the price of admission can have one and drive it any way he or she pleases as long as it is safe.

Yes, Im younger than the average F-chatter, but I whole-heartedly agree. A Ferrari is purchased for one reason only - the smile it puts on your face. When you are revving that motor to 8000 or just mashing the throttle or taking that twisty road, its all about driving pleasure. This guy obviously was not taking part in this 'joy' of Ferrari ownership!

A couple of house up from the place we just moved into has about 5 college guys living in it & everytime I leave our new place I take it kind of easy since I've got just a little oil/H2O temp.

So the other night one of the guys yells out, "you drive that car like my grandma."

There can be many reasons for driving slow/cautious/safely...and not too many valid ones for being reckless.

On a freeway? I had a Chrysler Imperial that would cruise fast on a freeway ... eventually.

I can have plenty of "joy" with my Ferrari without exceeding the speed limit.
(... if you remember that the same limits also apply to the corners). :p

Same logic used here. I also enjoy the precision of the drive - and that doesn't have to be done at max performance levels.

BTW, has anyone noticed how much a carbed 308 at 90+ mph sounds like a radial aircraft engine? No kidding. Please stop laughing. It is a great drone from those Webers. :p

My mother would say "I drive as a gentleman should". I'll 'get on it' once in a while, but for the most part, I'll let the maniac driving up to the Civic owners with their fart pipes and NOS stickers. At a dollar a mile in average maintenance costs, I want to enjoy every mile and I'm not in a hurry to get where I'm going.

Abso-friggin-lutely I also have a 79 308 GTB and it is a hoot at any speed. I always drive the speed limit on any main roads to avoid any extra police attention. Yes I do kick it up a bit on back roads but you would be surprised with that carbed car how a very little boost on the right curves can seem like you're flyin. You don't have to be dangerous to feel like you're going fast.
My friend Jon has a 2002 Modena and it is a very spectacular car. Just amazing, but him and I mapped out a run on beautiful curvy back roads for a run with some friends a while back. About 75 miles of perfect roads. I then did the same 75 miles with the group the next day in my 308 and I felt like the 308 was going a lot faster even though I was checking the speedo in his Modena and we were really going faster in it the day before. The car is so much more refined and controlled that you have to go alot faster for the same visceral sensation. I would really like to try his car on a track.
A great drive is a state of mind. It's an individual thing and maybe you're being a bit rough on the guy.
By the way my son and I were riding down a main highway with about a thousand stop lights and a policeman came out of a side street and was eyeballing us like crazy. He drove right next to us for a while and I thought "Oh No" Next light he rolled down his window and yelled "Hey wanna Race" and laughed like hell. Waved and took off.
    Sorry to ramble.

I have seen this exact car around before in this area while driving my other vehicles and he always drives slow, maybe he likes basking in the attention from gawkers which is why he puts around.

I wasn't trying to race him believe me, I just wanted to get past his pansy azz because he caused a few gawkers that were way behind me to catch up and box me in which I am uncomfortable with, I prefer to drive slightly faster than traffic old habits from my motorcycle riding days to prevent rear end impacts plus using the speed to help out of potential hazardous situations.

There is a point where you are a road hazard and can cause an accident if you don't keep up with the pace of traffic, especially with a car that also creates more road hazards from gawkers.

If this guy was concerned about his license from tickets driving a Ferrari is the last car you should be in, I am sure he drives it everyday as I see it all the time when in this area.

The term "fast" is inappropriately being used synomously with "exotic".

Merely owning an "exotic" does not mean one needs to "speed".

To me understanding and appreciating the integration of the car's workings and the manner in which it speaks back to me is quite important.

Moreover, some of us who have acquired assets over time and who are continuing to do so put a very high value on being able to enjoy and to protect those assets.

Things happen very fast at speed, and a wrong decision or bad timing can destroy one's life and/or have all those assets taken away very quickly.

So, to those of you who laugh at those who do not have lead in their right feet, at some point the above might "hopefully" make sense.

Maybe he's worried about being pulled over, maybe he just wants to sit back, relax, and enjoy the breeze and the low rumble of the engine. When I get a sweet car I am definitely going to cruise around and probably drive less than the speed limit.
That doesn't mean that I'm always going to drive it slow, just when I am in a relaxed mood.

The more i meet owners of exotics and fast cars (Vipers, Vettes, Lambos, Ferrari, Porsche, Aston, Maserati, Etc...) the more i meet people that don't like to drive over 85MPH. I am surprised, but its really not my business.

Like others said here before me, Different Strokes for Different Folks!

Everyone has their own way of doing it. Who are we to criticize?!

Now if your F430 guy was in the LEFT lane, driving 10mph Under the speed limit--thats a whole different tune. I dont care if youre in a 430 or a Nissan Pulsar. DONT DRIVE SLOW IN THE FAST LANE. Thats grounds for a good old fashioned beating!
