I think that there were about 25 made of the 166 Touring Barchetta like 0064M, so it isn't "a special one of a kind" Ferrari.

Ferrari had refused to officially participate in 1968's World Manufacturers Championship as a protest about the CSI's new 3-litre engine limit for prototypes
i have a feeling thats right, but just in case, I am going to go with this: 1964 the Mexican GP Surtees and Bandini were entered by NART. Enzo refused to enter this GP, fighting with the FIA over the homologation of the 250 LM. GT
Technically, there never was a year that Ferrari didn't participate in racing. While it's true that they didn't compete in endurance racing in 1968, they did participate in F1.....
YellowbirdRS welcome to the board! Time is running out however, but there should be several questions left... 1964 is a good try, however they did participate in other races, in fact, they were he F1 Constructors Champ that year... Who was this client and what was he the principal backer of that irked Enzo enough to no longer sell him cars?
Enzo Ferrari was a man that I immensely admired, but he could be his worst ennemy at time. A friend of mine, Briffaud, was at some point working for George Filipinetti (Swiss Maserati & Ferrari importer and distributor), owner of the Scuderia Filipinetti, that raced Ferraris and Porsches. He told me this story. In 65, Filipinetti, after much negotiations with Ferrari, bought at 365P2, to be raced alongside the team 250LM. At Monza, the car driven by Tomy Spychinger crashed and was destroyed, killing its driver. Spychinger, who had not practised with full tank, was caught out under braking as he approached the Parabollica on his first lap out after taking over from Herbie Muller; not wearing safety harness, he was decapitated by the windscreen as the car hit the bank. Filipinetti asked to Ferrari for a replacement, to be told that the factory couldn't provide one in time for Le Mans, where Filipinetti had an entry accepted. Ford was looking for extra entries and Filipinetti accepted to sell his, providing Muller got a drive and the car run in Filipinetti's colours. One day Briffaud was in the office, when a call came from Maranello, apparently from the Commendatore himself, enquiring about the entry for Le Mans; Ferrari had one American client who wanted to race there, and knowing that Filipinetti had an entry but no car, he thought that he could have a deal. The conversation was not easy: Ferrari spoke Italian and a bit of French, and Briffaud French with a bit of Italian! With as much tact as possible, Briffaud tried to explain that the entry was taken, and that Scuderia Filipinetti was running a Ford now. In the context of the time, with Ferrari having rebuked Ford in its offer to buy him out, and now Ford attacking Ferrari on the tracks, Enzo Ferrari went red, started swearing, cursing Filipinetti as a traitor and finished the outburst by saying: "Tell Filipinetti that he will never sell any cars from me in future!". Ferrari kept his word, Filipinetti lost the Ferrari franchise and started to sell and race Fords and Cobras. http://www.ferrarichat.com/forum/showpost.php?p=136038097&postcount=17
Great story! Very quick on the draw, however, there were specifically two cars that this client had ordered which Enzo told him he could no longer have. The difference being in Filipinettis case is it was a generality.
Count Giovanni Volpi di Misurata When Enzo Ferrari found out Count Volpi was one of the financial backers of the ATS (Automobili Turismo Sport) team (formed from the group that left Ferrari during the "Great Palace Revolt" among them: Carlo Chiti and Giotto Bizzarrini) , he understandably refused his orders for 2 GTOs so he built his own.... the breadvan. GT
WOW! That was unbelievably close! You were correct, however, it did lead to the breadvan. I think that statement may have come from Luca di Montezemola. Har! Pipped by one minute again! No fair, I just got back from the hardware store, and now I have to go outside and paint.
Very, very quick. And two close correct responses again! We also have a two way tie for the lead.
