Unfortunately this is a common scam and some do fall for it.

The most important thing is they will always write Dear Mr xxxxx, not Dear Paypal member, always remember that

I'd also notify Wachovia. Banks will chase this stuff down because it messes with their reputation.

A few months ago I was receiving emails from Chase Bank saying that my web access needed to be updated and that I could use the link provided in the email to straighten things out. Interestingly, I don't have a Chase Bank web account. A phone number was also provided.

Anyhow, clicking on the link brought me to a page requiring id and password. The page looked exactly the same as the one at Chase's site. However, taking a closer look at the URL confirmed that it was on some Asian merchandise site. Idiots.

I'm affraid that would have to be one really, really, really, really, really big piggy bank. Fifth Third bank bought out Old Kent Banks in 2001/2002 when the 'merger' took place the emerging fifth third bank became the second largest bank in the midwestern states with asset of $61,900,000,000 and deposits of $43,800,000,000 and over 980 banking centers.

We have house some of our corporate accounts at Fifth Third. We did not sign up with them, but our accounts were assumed when the merger became finalized.

These emails were sent to my personal email account though. Nothing to our corporate email accounts.

Most amusing is the consistent pathetic butchering of the English language in their requests for personal information!

Fifth Third is under some kind of scrutiny down here due to some "questionable" real estate loans they made to some 30-year-old criminal named Neil Husani who up and ran off to Jordan.

You'd think with that kind of cash, they could afford to have a name that doesn't sound like a typo.
