Raeder Gallardo GT at the Nordschleife - turn it up! http://videos.streetfire.net/category/Exotics/1/wm/146ffc63-132d-42ea-b701-981800f49a04.htm
Wow that was great. Didn't watch it all as I don't have the time but that AWD sure does eat the other cars up for breakfast.
Yes, the --THE ONE AND ONLY!!! There is no other circuit on the globe like the "Green Hell"! The video shows one lap (!!) of the combined lap of the (new) GP- and old circuit! Total of 185 curves! The 24 hrs race in June always attracts about 300,000 people to come each year! Something about the Gallardo: the engine of this car was prepared and race tuned by META Gmbh, the company who made the Phaeton- and the basis of the Bugatti Veyron-engine. Ciao! Walter
For sure! Gotta love the Ring! Not being older, I cant imagine how unsafe the Nordschleife was before it was closed to F1 in the 1970s Jackie Stewart and Lauda era. The link still works for me.
Awesome video and nice engine sound but, can someone tell me what the hell were those two cars in front? On the straights, they were just pulling away from the Gallardo like if it were standing still. The one leading the pack (white car) looked like some sort of Porsche but, the red one (2nd car) I couldn't make out what it was. Anyone know?
The car in 2nd appeared to be either a Viper or Vette and the car in first place looked like a 996 or 7 Variant. Probably an 997RSR. I hear those put out about 890hp.
Very cool video. Slightly off-topic, but if you listen to the engine at about 1 minute 4 seconds into the clip (as the G starts accelerating out of a turn), notice how the engine keeps stuttering as it is trying to gain revs? i've had this happen to my G as well (both my old '04 and the '06). the G also will do this at idle often times (it will keep revving up and down a few hundred rpm constantly). if i'm rolling at low speed, and then floor the car, it sometimes does what this car does in the video at 1:04. anyone know what this is about?
I noticed that as well and thought it had to do with the corkscrewing motion of the car coming out of the turn upsetting the traction. Tight turn so maybe some binding in the quattro. Perhaps it's just my eyes but the BMW seemed to have a little bounce coming out of that turn as well. Later in the clip at minute 9:50 he hits the same turn but at higher speed and is able to swing out wider and the engine only wobbles twice. I really think it's just the tightness of the turn binding up the works a little.
Nice clip. That thing sure does sound nice. The ring is insane. You better be one great driver in a properly prepped car to run the way these guys do. That stuff is nuts. I can even imagine driving the ring that hard. There were plenty of times in the video were I was saying to my self "yup I would have lost it there, and there, and oooo yeah there for sure." You gotta be a bit nuts to drive it that hard.
and this is when it all goes wrong at the ring. 996RSR http://videos.streetfire.net/video/f/4372ffb2-ff4e-4daa-a34e-982d010de895.htm
Walter Roehl broke the 8:00 "barrier" there with a standart Porsche 911 four years ago! The `Ring teaches you devotion! And about the Gallardo-video: image they also drove high-speed there in the night. The weather this year was perfect but 3 years ago there was constand rain! Then the tarmac gets very slippery and with all those bumps its quite a handfull to drive there flat-out! Ciao! Walter
Overall fastest lap at the Ring Year 1983 Driver Stefan Bellof Car Porsche 956 Time 6:11.13 According to accounts it was the faster than anyone thought was possible. I think its unlikely to be beaten by even a 2006 Audi R8. I hope Im wrong.
Correct - but the lap was shortened and the car was a racing car with downforce! Get this 6:11,13 and take under 8:00 minutes with a standart 911 and you know what Roehl did. Of course Bellof record is outstanding for all time! btw., record now is hold by a racing 911 with very little under 7:00 minutes (as far as I know!). My personal record from 2001 is 9:44,6 with an M3 (and in 1980 in 10:08,2 with an M1). Both was fast enough for me. Ciao! Walter
Walter, Thats incredible. Please tell us more about your seat time in the M1 at the Ring. What are your comparisons between the M3 and the M1? Of course Rohrl is a magician. We assume he is capable of miracles. Sub 8 in a standard car is amazing. I remember seeing on TV Bernd Schneider give 3 journos a ride in the C32 and he did little over 10. And Sabine Schmidt does it in sub 9 in the M5. I guess the Gallardo GT was doing high 7s or low 8s? vur
I think it may be the clutch, I was driving my friends EVO the other day, and he has a 4 puck sprung racing clutch in it, when shifting into 2nd it would sound the same as that, and lurch if it wasn't shifted just right. So maybe the gearbox had an error?
http://videos.streetfire.net/video/1270abfc-413b-48ed-8aed-982a002044eb.htm This claims to be the fastest lap by a street legal Porsche.
Vur, my best results came in perfect weather conditions. If its wet there I s**t in my pants!! And there were NO motorbikes on the track which frightens me to death (most of the fatal accidents each year on the ol``Ring are with them!). Well, the M1 was perfect for the `Ring as it had -to my opinion!- the best chassis & suspension combination in the 70ies! The M3 was very good for accelerating out of curves due to its very nice straight-6 engine! Also the gearbox was better than in the M1. I always prefered the M1 over the M3 even when the later was the far better all-rounder. The old `Ring is very bumpy on some sections and here the suspension of the M3 was more forgiving. The section I like most is the "Hatzenbach" (you can see it in the beginning of the Porsche-crash-video). Here you need to find a good rythm and then its magical when you feel how the suspension of the car is communicating. But I tell you - as much as I drove there (I assume fore than 500 laps in all those years) after the winter, when the season begins I have to learn the course once more! Driving there in the 30ies for about 4 hours with 600 Hp-monsters, fitted with tiny wheels and tyres and a suspension far away from today-standarts, this is unbelievable when you drive there by yourself. Until today a magical place for all pretrol-heads! Ciao! Walter
Walter Thats is very cool. Thanks - Do you have any pics of your days at the Old Ring ? Gallardo - Heres the entry for the 2006 race where the Lambo Gallardo appeared - the class is given as SP8 - what is this?
