There are several 348s at various Ferrari dealers that I am interested in (especially the SS at FoSF). What is the thought on PPIs for these vehicles? Does the dealer perfom it, even though it is their car? Do you take it to an uninvolved, 3rd party such as a trusted independent? Or do you trust the dealer and buy without it (this seems unlikely)?

I know the value of a PPI from my 308 purchase (thanks Norwoods!!!), and I also know it is expected on 348s also. Just not sure when it comes from an actual Ferrari dealer.

    Spencer,
I have sent them a message last night for any info regarding service history... thay are yet to answer. They posted no service info on this car, which is weird. F of Denver had a beautiful one for sale (sold fast) and they had all the info posted. What other dealers you found 348's at?
    Thanks

You probably want to have a PPI done by a 3rd party. Just because its a dealer doesn't mean that they are going to be straight with you........they are car salesmen!

i did not perform a PPI on my TR when i bought it from FOW. i decided to trust the dealer, because they have been straight shooters with my 308, and the dealership has a good rep. but dealers vary, and it was a bit easier for me, since i had prior experiences with them. if this is your first interaction with that dealer, a PPI is probably a good idea.

It was the same one @ F of Denver. I saw it late one night, and when I called the next morning it was already gone.

I have called and emailed FoSF about the service history, and the email I received back was "what service history do you need?" I too thought that this was odd.

I'd agree with this, mostly. I bought a 328 at Sport Auto last year and had the major service done by them. The only issue I had was a dead power window the day after delivery; I called, slightly annoyed, and they immediately offered to pay. It turned out to be a dirty switch, so nothing big, but the markup you pay at a reputable dealer buys you some piece of mind that there's nothing seriously wrong with the car.

However, having a dealer do a PPI on their own car, at your expense, seems a waste. If buying from an individual, a PPI is a very good idea, because you won't have much if any recourse if Something Big goes wrong.

I had a third party do one on a car in Oregon recently after the dealer said it was in excellent condition. When the previous paperwork said that 40 bolts had to be removed because of locktite being used and other serious items that the dealer did not tell me about, I would strongly recommend a third party inspecion only! Good luck with your search.
