Changed the seals in the slave cyl/release brg carrier on my 11k mile,94 GTS about 5 months ago because of a leak, not used the car for about 8 weeks, came to it last night and found that it was leaking again.

Stripped it out tonight, everything looks in order, no sign of the seals being nipped or anything, no marks on the flange.

    Questions are :-

    1. Is it normal to have to keep changing these seals, because they are that poor. It's not that big a deal, would be nice to have found some signs to why it has leaked again
    2. Anybody else had similar problems.
    3. Is it worth changing the flange to the later one and the uprated slave cyl that Hill's produce.

Did you change all the o-rings in the housing as well as the 3 on the main shaft?

If so, it shouldn't leak. Mine hasn't leaked since being changed (8 months ago).

Changed the seals in the slave cyl and the triple seals. When you say hsg, are you refering to the slave cyl/brg carrier or do you mean the flange bolted to the gearbox that the slave moves on.

If memory serves me right, there's a few o-rings behind the flange bolted to the bell housing. I think there's some small ones and a larger one #16 and #23

Thought about them, as you say there are 2 small O rings and 1 larger O ring.
What I can't weigh up is if it's them that are leaking how has fluid run down onto the bottom of the slave cyl hsg.Found a drip on the bottom, at the rear of the slave and further foward where the brg locates.

Yes those, and the rear output shaft seal. So a total of four. The three o-rings, and the one seal.

Those be the ones, and #33 is the seal.

Just been to have a look again, and I'm pretty sure it's not leaking from the O rings behind the flange.
No sign whatsoever of any damage etc on the slave seals, flange surface looks good.
The only thing that I can see are 2 lines/marks on the inside surface of the slave cyl, inside the rear seal directly inline with the 2 fluid ways, these are not scratches.

So would it be a cool invention (or even technically possible) to make seals such that if they leaked, that they each colored brake fluid a different shade so that you could quickly tell the offending seal?

I'm thinking of the dye test for finding leaks in your A/C system, but applied to clutch/brake hydraulics.

    Feasible??

    Steve,

Have you taken the flange off to have a look at the two diameters?

The reason I ask is that I have seen it on TR's before where the chrome has flaked off the shaft and thus caused severe leaks - you could be looking for something much smaller than a flake of hard chrome. If you want me to have a look over the flange, seals and carrier feel free to send it down to me where I will gladly have a look.
