Challenge Stradale stolen !!!

Yesterday evening (02.09.06) a friends car was stolen at the Racing Days on Nürburgring, Germany. The VIN is ZFFDT57B000138908, the car is Rosso Corsa with black seats. Numberplate is Austria, W-ONE 111. A pic of the car is attached.

There were nearly 1000 Ferrari in that area yesterday, so a cs was not that special on the roads...

 

I don't think I've ever been in a position to say that "a CS was not that special on the roads..."

I really feel sorry for the owner. To have your car Ferrari stolen during a track event would be horrible. Good luck to him.

 

Couldn't agree more, most prestige car's stolen in Europe end up in former communist block country's with fairly basic vehicle registration laws........if you have a few thousand dollars the car will be titled with no docs or questions asked!

 

I have heard that with GM cars there are only so many combinations available for the secure key remote. So, if someone had a series of remotes one could effectively go through a parking lot trying each remote he had until responded.

A friend recently had his Range Rover stolen in SF. When it was located (obviously while thief was still using it), there was a plastic file cabinet containing blank title forms and a large group of GM remotes taped together! Obviously, these were very professional crooks with a leg up on master remote availability.

Do you think this is possible with Ferrari?

Most electrical and alarm components in the Ferrari's are made and supplied by Delphi which was a GM subsidiary!

 

You can't really trust any anti-theft device 100%. I know of a dealer that had 4 Ferraris stolen off their lot years ago. From what I remember, the theives knew the dealer shut off the batteries with the shut-off knob, and they knew there was a loophole in the alarm electronics where you had a little bit of time to break in the car, turn the battery on, get the ignition tumbler turned, and get the car started before the system could engage the electronic remote kill-switch. I wonder if someone figured out a loophole in the current alarm systems.

I have a Viper car alarm installed in my 1982 Ford Fairlane(aftermarket alarm installed in 1999) In the manual it says it has over a billion rolling codes. That means the code/frequency changes everytime you lock and unlock the car, so its harder for a theif to 'crack' the code, as its always changing. You would think, in this day and age, that all alarms from the manufacturer would have rolling codes, to help prevent theives making off with your pride and joy. Maybe Delphi alarms are not like this?? Cheap sh*t!!

The alarm is not Delphi. Every system in that car (except F1) is German. The alarm is Bosch.

 

Yes that's true about the alarm. I did forget that one.

However, with the number of Delphi tags and ID's I have seen in my 360, apparently not all the systems are German in origin.

But more importantly, how could that CS be stolen? Is there an inherent weakness in the alarm system as Michael FVM alludes to?

Geez that really sucks, I remember an F50 got stolen from a hotel a couple of years ago, a car like that you would think would turn up by now. Makes me wonder if there is anyone willing to try the same thing with an ENZO or FXX?

 

sad news - the vin is now posted on the ferrari club oesterreich website too, as the car was registered in vienna.

That F50 did turn up eventually. Sheehan had an article about it in a copy of SCM a while ago. Apparently, it was being sold by a foreign dealer (located in Japan if I remember correctly).
