I know, I know.... The symptoms of stinking smut or common bunt are not as apparent as those of loose smut. If you had paid closer attention you would know that smut-infected heads have a bluish-green cast, in contrast to the green color of healthy heads.
Well just so you can be on the watch out...... Heads and diseased kernels have a distinctive fishy odor.
I don't think that will do any good..... it is not common, but can occur anywhere in Ohio and no varieties adapted to Illinois are resistant to stinking smut. Fungicide is the only real cure......
I live in farmland. Doc next door has over 300 acres in corn. Overly manured fields followed by long wet periods are conducive to corn smut. Conclusion 1 - It takes stinky, wet conditions to create corn porn. Conclusion 2 - Drunk spelling of the search query porn smut. I was leaning towards 2 since your pic was of wheat.
