    Just out of curiosity,
    What's the fastest car Ferrari ever made excluding f1 cars?
    I would have thought the 333SP, but i came accross something yesterday that rated the F50 GT1 at 750bhp :-O
    I apologize if this is the wrong forum for this question.

    Well considering the the engine in the 333sp is the same engine that came out of a F50 I would think that they would be about the same. I guess it all depends on what aerodynamic setup and what gear ratio they are running.

    You might want to check out the 1971? 512-M. I think the Sunoco Mark Donahue Kirk. F. White dark blue one went 250 MPH +.

    Yeah, I would have thought that one of the 512M Ferrari was the fastest.
    At that time, they were most interested in top speed for Le Mans and other fast tracks, and some 512S or M had long tails.
    Potentially the fastest could be the 512F, so called because it was modified by Michael Parkes for Scuderia Filipinetti. It had a long tail, enveloping rear body work (unlike the conventional 512M that copied the Porsche 917), and also a narrow windscreen. Parkes had borrowed a 917 windscreen when he converted the car to M configuration.
    They produced 550/580 HP and weighted only 950 kg.

    the 712 has even a better power to weight ratio. In the straight it should be the quickest, in the corner it will not beat a FXX or 333SP

    Although not officially raced, I would think one of the 288 GTO Evoluziones would be right up there is track time.

    To an F50 GT1 or FXX? I doubt that. I have just heard different things.

    I don't know but I would guess a sports prototype from the LeMans era prior to the addition of the chicanes on the Mulsanne. I know the Porsches used to run 240+ back then.

    By the way, I was at Lime Rock when the 333SPs made their first appearance there for the Memorial Day race. I don't know how fast they were but damn, they sounded great :D

    I would dissagree there. An open cockpit car is never going to have the same drag coefficient as an enclosed car.

    If we are to talk only about top speed, I guess that a long-tail 512M, specially built for the 5KM Le Mans straight at the time (before 1990 and the introduction of chicanes), should be aerodynamically more efficient than a 712 CanAm car on top speed.

    Since we're talking about fastest Ferrari's, how does the F50 GT1 stack up compared to the FXX or 333sp?

    I would think the F50 would have a higher top speed, but as it is not as modern, it might be slower in corners. I think lap times would be close for all three....

    The F60 already? I guess 2007 is the 60th, and the Enzo has been around since 2003... I don't know why, but it seems like it's too soon to replace the Enzo.

    The 1971 512M Sunoco Ferrari was clocked at 220 mph @ Le Mans on the Mulsanne Straight in 1971. The top speed was restricted only by our aerodynamics. If we had had a "long tail", the car probably would have exceeded 250 mph.

    I don't think the 512Ms could've hit that speed (if you have a link please post it). The Turbo Porsche 917s could definitely do it however!

    I remember Roger Dorchy going over 250 (nearer to 260) at LM in the 80's, IIRC the tires couldn't really withstand that speed continuously.

    in an overall view, the F333 is the fastest car outside an F1. having personally driven one, seen them in competition, club racing, and on TV, they just just get faster than the 333... even though the car is over 10 years old. weight of under 1900lbs and power of 660hp at 10,500 and 750 at 11,500, just power/weight ratio alone easily exceeds the FXX. i have seen the FXX and the 333 on the track at once, and while the FXX is extremely fast, it still can't touch the 333. as a pro driver told me, a GT car like the FXX can never touch an SP car, any more than an SP car can touch an F1. i think the high revving engine has something to do with it being untouchable on the straights. it is however probably not as fast in out of turn acceleration because it has lower torque. the F40 LM is very quick in that respect. but as it proved in the ALMS races vs. the much higher torque R&S and Dyson SP cars, torque is not that important in lightweight cars. the low center of gravity, stiffness in chassis, etc makes it unbeatable in the turns. to clear something up, the F50 GT was never raced or mass produced. so to include it as a possible selection is probably not correct. the reports put out by Ferrari tout it as faster than the 333, but first of all, those reports put out by Ferrari probably were exagerrated to give the F50 GT more hype because the 333 had already proven itself. Pro driver Derek Bell drove both and found the F50 GT less controllable at super high speeds. The large engine of the F50 GT allows for more torque which may give it an edge in acceleration, but since it is a GT car, the GT class requires it to be 2200lbs vs. 1900lbs for the SP car, so that extra weight is a factor in all respects of lap time. but both being almost the same car, it is probably silly to compare them. in any case, the F50 GT neve rmade it out of the garage so we'll never know, thus it cannot really qualify. Both awesome cars.

    i've read somewhere awhile back that not only Ferrari, but others have confirmed that the F-50 GT1 is actually faster than the 333-sp around a track
