Next time we get together for an event, it'd be great if each of us who has an electric Ferrari R/C car could bring that along. There is always some "downtime" in a parking lot somewhere and it'd be fun to do a little race.

Actually Carla brought this one up since she just got a brand new R/C Ferrari (pics please, Carla) from Hammacher & Schlemmer. It reminded me to dust off my F1, which drives a lot faster than the guy at the controls can handle. It does nice burnouts on the kitchen floor though. Powerslides around the coffee table. :)

At 2 1/2' long, this remote control 1:6 scale version of the convertible 2006 Ferrari Spyder is larger than typical remote control vehicles, and is a faithful recreation of the sleek modern lines and classic red color that are hallmarks of Italys most famous sports car maker. The car responds to its handheld controller at a range up to 100', moving forward and in reverse, and turning left and right under precise command of the four-band transmitter. The headlights turn on when the car is activated, and it emits authentic engine and gear-shifting sounds recorded from the full-size automobile version of the Spyder during operation for a more authentic remote control driving experience. The rechargeable battery provides 20 minutes of operatio n on a four hour charge, and the controller requires four AA batteries. Ages 8 and up. 13" H x 14" W x 30" L. (6 lbs.)

Dont have it with me right now, so have to wait with details, but anyhow it is an unusual car that I found on ebay. Wasn't much money (can't remember, but was like a hundred or so). The car was almost completely assembled and drives like gang busters. Unknown brand, but will dig it out.

I also bought a Tamiya car and assembled it in an week of work. Only to find out, that I screwed up the differential and it never worked. Gave it to a more talented friend who fixed it and races it ever since. This car here is much simpler and hence right for me.

Carla's 360 is monstrous and just last year I came across a small company in Switzerland who builds R/C F1 (McLaren and Ferrari) about 6 feet long. Those babies are gigantic and not much money. If I ever find them again, I'm probably gonna buy one. Could put a hamster in it as the driver. :)

Are the batteries in the car switchable? For 4 hours charge for 20 minutes of use it seems like you'd want a few extra batteries charged to switch out at pitstops.
