You can apply it to grammatical scrutiny, but it encompasses much more.

It amazes me too--but now I am just being pedantic.

How about misspellanalphobia. thats when someone who just ranted an entire page in F-chat, and the only retort was "your an idiot because you had typos."

And yes, I'm aware of the mistakes, its supposed to be ironic.

    one of my personal favorites:

    Sphygmomanometer: A.K.A. a blood-pressure cuff.

Also ylshih - I applaud you on the most unwieldy molecule name I've ever seen. I feel very, very sorry for whoever had to NMR that thing. My favorite organic molecule: ethane.

Mahatma Gandhi, as you know, walked barefoot most of the time, which
produced an impressive set of callouses on his feet. He also ate very little,
which made him rather frail and with his odd diet, he suffered from bad
    breath. This made him...

A super calloused fragile mystic hexed by halitosis. :D

Sesquipedalianism, which is ironic considering the thread at hand.

    Obsequious.

    Insipid.

    Segacious.

    Egregious.

Hippopotomonstrosesquippedaliaphobia...! Aha...! Take that, Yin and you others...! I didn't have to look it up or copy and paste - I'm just naturally a dork...!

    ...um, wait...

Ok, for real words, I think everyone should know what an aglet is and I think everyone should know what onanism is and I think everyone should know what unctuous means... I can't think of any others at the moment, but obsequious was a good one ('oblique' is another favorite word that starts with an 'o' and has a 'q' in it)...

    This is a great thread...!
