After tooling around between a 456, 355 and even a 512 BB, I did the implusive thing and bought a '92 348 TS (first I looked at..). I couldn't live with a 308, 328 having owned the ultimate 308 (that wasn't an official 288 GTO - although as close as I could get), and not too techie - so good for the DIYer. I like the simplicity of the design and the extensive archives that have been developed about all the possible problem this baby is going to have...

    The good:
Lot of bills supporting maintenance history (including irrational decision to have the ferrari dealer replace simple things such a as battery, door sills, underhood insulation, all the interior stiky parts, change stereo,etc..probably $30k in bills over the last 4 years)
High mileage car but documented - not a pseudo garage queen with only 5K miles - good price
Engine sound - even though it runs stock exhaust, I like the free reving V8 sound
    Good driveability and new tires.

    The Bad:
Quite a few paint chips and road rash on the front bumper
Needs a major in the next year or so
The usual slow window and A/C problems (needs a charge)
Seat and interior tired - needs re-dye and some basic TLC
Stupid mickey mouse belts that don't work
It's well slowish... at least in comparison to my prior rocket (twin turbo 509 rwhp) but at least my wife is willing to ride with me and looks good great.

    Now some questions:
Sticky throttle after the car heats up - I am assuming dirty throttle bodies?
Firm shifter... nothing new, however; is there a lubrication needed in the shifting system to "help" with the shifting?

Already have ordered Stabilant 22a, some thrills - ie shifter knobs, pedals and a few doodads...looking for wheel spacers or 355 wheels...

Looking forward to get my hands dirty!

Well Frenchy, you look like a serious Ferrari guy. Looking forward to working on the car is priceless. Welcome to the Brotherhood.

You know Redvett, being a former Corvette owner, I would really like to know your reasons for buying the F-car, and not a late model Vett. Just curious.
In case I didn't say, welcome to the brotherhood.

Thanks for the welcome to the brotherhood. You guys have been fun to watch over the last couple of months while I was making my decision, scapy but very knowledgeable - my kind of folks. As a quick background - I was the owner of the infamous Norwood 288/308 GTO replica (correct engine orientation - twin turbo and 509 rwhp) which I sold recently, amazing car but not the most driveable animal. I am glad I got something that is fun and is easy to work on (relatively)... not to sound cocky but after the GTO I think it will be a nice financial relief from the usual bills (knock on wood). I do much of work myself (hobby and excuse for a fully stocked garage) unless there is machining involved, I have rebuild a couple of ferrari engines as well as a few race engines (formula continental), so I am excited about this car since it really is in my sweet spot of fun vs. complexity vs. cost.

BTW, already having fun taking things apart - look forward to much discussion and contribution where I can!
