Can I use acoustic carpet to put (6.5 inch) speakers in the forward half of the doors? I thought I had seen something, but I can't find it now thanks in advance, Jay
I havent had time to pull the door apart, but it looks like there is room for speakers behind the carpeted area that is towards the front of the door, as opposed to at the rear edge behind the perforated leather (stock location) I want to install the mid/bass behind some acoustically transparent carpet. I am trying to get better imaging, using a high end mid/bass, tweet and single sub setup. I also want it to be totally hidden. I want to put the speakers right where the 37 arrow points to in this pic. Image Unavailable, Please Login
Don't know if that area has enough space for a mid-bass driver. So, it should be quite shallow. What make are you planning on using? Make sure he carpet has no backing. I used to sell that carpet but since all the mills are now doing work offshore availability is tough. If you check my web site you will see a very small tweeter there. May be perfect for what you want. It does come in two versions. Only one is listed. Sub in a 355 is tricky but there again i may be able to help. Let me know if I can help you.
If you do a setup---please post pics --I am looking into doing something also. A nice headunit and speakers---nothing major
I have a huge, expensive "previous owner" type stereo in my car. I want to downsize and make it match my musical tastes, and not the musical taste of a stereo installer who apparently got a blank check. I have old school rockford tweeters. Mids I havent pulled apart yet, but I assume they are Rockford. I am thinking of Polk Audio SR6500 or Genesis Audiophile. I want to get a component set because I hate making crossovers, and I am not very good at it. I am leaning toward the Polk Audio, and maybe I will hear them later today. I like the Focal Utopia best of all, but the tweeters get a little twangy for me after a while. Still the best I have tested, but looking for a little more, in the stock location. I want to get a component set because I hate making crossovers, and I am not very good at it. I am leaning toward the Polk Audio, and maybe I will hear them later today. I have an arc audio 5150 from another project, but I may try to hide two of the little Alpines next to the a/c under the carpet instead of in the trunk. Sub is TBD, but I like free air, not to big Have you heard the Genesis or newish Polk Audio SR's? Jay
I am also into audio, but only replaced the head unit and installed new infinity reference speakers up fron. It was a total waste of money except the head unit looks nicer- the sound went from total crap from the stock stereo to just plain old crap sound! I guess unless you go the whole route of subs and massive amps, do not bother! Also a loud aftermarket (capristo) exhaust does not help either! gordon
I kept my expectations low...but found that installing a Kenwood 5032 deck and matching Kenwood 10cd changer was a nice upgrade from the original Blaupunkt set up. Though I am still using the oem speakers, I am rather pleased with the sound now. Still severely lacking in bass, but overall not nearly as sucky as before. It is at least tolerable. Music is just a background to the engine anyway. I would never live with such a set up in a daily driver though.
