This is early (deliberately so, to avoid conflicting with something else). I would like to gauge interest in a run to the Storm King Art Center: http://www.stormking.org/aboutstormking.html It's about an hour north of the GWB. If you've never been there, it is extraordinarily beautiful and peaceful. In a nutshell, it's 500 acres of rolling lawns, trees and water dotted with important large-scale post-war and modern sculptures. The drive itself will be nice, too, and goes through the Bear Mountain area and some of the nice roads we've visited on recent drives. I will also find a place for lunch afterwards. In order to avoid conflicts with the September events, I am tentatively scheduling this for October 1 (a Sunday). There should be some nice fall foliage by this time, which will make it especially beautiful. You photographers out there are strongly encouraged to bring your cameras. ***PLEASE NOTE: I am a bit of an art junkie and fully intend to spend a few hours walking the grounds of the Art Center. I'd like to make this an "art run", a chance for those of you who really enjoy art to appreciate this place. Also, because this is a quiet, serene place, I don't want to swarm it with cars/people, so I am proposing a 15 car cap on this run (first 15 to RSVP -- and please do so only if you really think you can and want to come). Somehow, I doubt I'll even get 15 of you to come to this but, if by some miracle more are interested, we'll work something out. If anyone has any questions, feel free to post a reply or PM me... Here's one view of Storm King, which I am "borrowing" and hope they don't mind... Let the comments/jokes begin. Image Unavailable, Please Login
They didn't finish building that scarecrow in the field yet. Let's wait until they do before the run.
does storm king have anything else or is their collection limited to sculptures? i am not really into modern/abstract sculptures
Absolutely... Would be a great place for it, I think... Not sure if/how we can get a good backdrop for the cars (don't remember how the parking lot is situated from my last visit, but I think it's pretty scenic). Not sure. Check out the link I posted in the original posting though. I think they've got some other art in the main building, but, assuming nice weather of course (which this run is contingent on), there's so much beautiful nature around that in itself is worth it (in my opinion). Lol... Nice, Clyde
