That needs to happen more often.

These so-called 'investigative reporters' are mostly jackasses who follow folks around screaming questions at them. There's ways to develop stories that don't involve stalking and verbal assault.

I agree, but I still don't think this kind of abuse should happen.
Verbal abuse in one thing, physical is another

Wow that's pretty bad. I think the fact that he attacked him like that just proves that he is guilty of the fraud.

I agree. However, I don't think that news reporters should have the ability to do investigative reports when it's a criminal matter. That's the police and government's job. Investigative Reports from news reporters should be for people being screwed over by businesses, like a business price gouging someone because they locked their keys in their car. That recently happened in Arizona, and the company wanted $160 to break the window of her car.

He was not trained in mortal combat. I would venture to say he has been protected from the ugly side of the world all his life. Even if he had an ounce of martial art instruction, his defensive stance would have been more evident.

Now that it's all cought on tape, fraud charges are the least of that guys problems now.

Just cause you work for the news doesn't give you the right to push yourself onto an unwilling person for an interview. The camera in someone's face who is saying turn it off , turn if off like the guys wife did. He, the newsman, kind of insulted her or at the least was just rude. She went back and told her hubby and the reporter got an ass kicking. And according to Chris Rock , got hit upside the head. I get tired of the news having so much power to print or report anything they want no matter what the facts may be. I think in this case anyone of us would have stepped in and stopped the fight and not kept the camera rolling. Luckily no one was shot or stabbed and will heal up. If the news team wanted they could of restrained this guy.

I think it's unrealistic to think we can go through our lives without ever having to face potential physical attack. If someone walked up to my girlfriend and got in her face and started yelling obscenities and really upset her, you bet I'd kick the guys ass. I wouldn't "talk it out" or something. Kids fight. Animals fight. Adults sometimes fight. One reason folks should be a little more respectful is because these kinds of things happen. I wonder how many people on this board have never ever been in a fight, or hit someone in anger.

I'm not saying its an appropriate way to handle all problems, but those investigative reporters really are mostly scum. Its the slimy rank underbelly of the journalism world and usually the sleazebags are the ones who do it, or the ones who are at the bottom rung of the journo world. If someone was on my property harassing me and refused to leave and harassed my wife there's a good chance an assbeating is coming their way.

That's not at all what happened. The TV crew were interviewing a witness to the real estate scam when the woman came up to them and got involved, and when the husband started battering the reporter it was the witness who jumped on his back trying to get him off the reporter. I'm no big fan of a lot of "investigative reporting" but the FOX station in San Diego was always pretty good about staying away from tabloid journalism or harrassing people. As soon as the 2 suspects got involved then it hardly became an instance of the reporter pushing himself upon an unwilling person for an interview. They are criminals and they got busted, but unfortunately they are on the streets again.

What was that whirling dervish wannabee Suleiman (No relation to Süleyman the Magnificent) trying to do to Mattes?

    Clothesline him?

If you're going to hit somebody, don't use a straightarm pivoting from the shoulder. Knock his ass out. Your fist should reach his head at the beginning of the punch, not the conclusion. Then drive through. Clothesline to the head? That makes you an Idiot, Scamman.
    __

Barraza, who during the confrontation threatened to get a gun, was booked for investigation of making a terrorist threat, displaying a deadly weapon (perfume bottle she was wielding above interviewee, then seized by passerby), battery, and theft for allegedly stealing the cameraman's microphone.

Suleiman was booked for investigation of felony assault.

    They posted bail Tuesday night.

    How do you figure?

You can't win a settlement or judgement or infinite amount just because something happened. Just because you're in a fender bender doesn't mean you lose your house, etc.

In this instance, what does the reporter sue for? Obviously his medical costs would be covered. Pain and suffering... sure, but he'd never get $1mm - not even close. Mental anguish? I doubt it - he put himself in that situation so that may be a tough one to get.

So where does the $1mm figure come from?

Look at court cases for these types of incidents... they usually seem to result in judgements in the thousands dollar range. Doubt the reporter gets more than $10k above his medical costs. He was obviously hamming it up for the interview too... "I'm just really not doing so good" LOL!

P.S. The reporter is a p%$$y! The guy took a lame lame shot and the guy cowered and turned his back. When you have to fight, you fight to WIN. If someone hits you, clock em and go for the knockout.

With a good lawyer the guy could get a nice chunk of change. Mental suffering, emotional distress, any permanent long term medical issues that he suffered (you can totally milk that). Plus he got his ass kicked on camera which is indisputable evidence right there. Look at Rodney King when he got his ass kicked on camera he got 4 million and that was 15 years ago. I know it wasn't even close to a Rodney King beatdown but I was just using that as an example. The million dollar figure came from out of nowhere, it was merely just an exaggeration by me. I'd say he could prob get 50-100k though if he played his cards right.

    1. That was a SWEET straight-arm roundhouse that guy connected with--twice.

    2. That reporter should try not to act so melo-dramatic. That wasn't a roadside car bombing in Baghdad he survived.

    3. Did O'Reilly REALLY not understand why someone would run that scam?
