    Need a car to drive all year every day as a reliable car....but cant stand the thought of driving a boring car. Have in mind that I need a car that can go through swedish winter! The cars I am putting into consideration is;

    BMW 740iL
    Alfa 156 2.5 V6
    BMW M5 (E34)
    2002 Audi A6

give me some opinions, I am open minded! It just needs to be reliable, I have enough toy cars that break down every other day :)

Out of those you posted, I'd have to say the A6...

Too expensive car to plow through swedish snow. I´m thinking about a LS400 though.

how do you describe boring? of the cars on your list i have experaince with all but the alfa. the others i would describe as boring only becouse they do there job with out much incedent or flair. reliable and tough is what you'd want for your winters so i'd side for something with 4-wheel drive. so the audi edges ahead. however if you've grown up in that weather then it shouldn't be that hard to drive any of them in the winter.

for offroad snow treking i've had ford trucks, rovers, and audi's. the rovers come in 1st for hard core offroad, Audi second and the rest behind. however the rovers come in dead last for all other types of driving and you'll need a big bucket to contain the parts that keep falling off as you move along ;) so for allaround the Audi wins again.

for fun factor a Rs4 or Rs6 would do it. however for what ever demented reason the Audi's are tiny inside. odd for a german car but the A4 is useless for more than 2 people and the A6 is tight. but jump to the A8 or the new Q7 and you get your space back in spades. go figure.

    opinions off now ;)

Could be expensive. I'd go for the M5 preferably but the most logical decision would be the A6!

i got to drive my friend's dad's 740i one, it is an awesome car! he traded that in for the 745, which he said was alright, but he hated the idrive, and now he has the 750il, which he says is the best of all 3. but the 740 really can be a beast if you treat it right, plus the luxury is second to none in that class.

Big luxury car, big engine, big $$$$$$$ if something goes wrong.

I've always had BMW's and they are very reliable but i know for sure that annual services can be expensive sometimes and the bigger the engine, the bigger the cost (obviously)

I've had enough problems with my German cars (two Porsches, a BMW and an Audi) that I'm probably done with them.

I'd vote for a Lexus IS 350 or an Infiniti G35 coupe. Maybe not the best for heavy snow; but they would work fine for the snow I get.

I suppose if I had to shop for something to get through heavy snow, I'd consider SUVs. Maybe a Toyota 4Runner. I test-drove one a week ago, and it was a fun vehicle (surprisingly).

I had a R32 GTR once and the engine blew up...those are pretty hard driven so no thanks. I was thinking about a GTS-T, RWD, turbo, looks alright, fun, sounds OK. Thoughts?

From what I've been told, you're extremely lucky to get any Japanese import that's ever had its oil changed.

Out of your original list, I'd take the A6 (in Avant form). What about a V70R, or a 9-3 Viggen?

Well my brother import alot of sports cars from japan and it is very very rare that we ever come upon a problem with these cars.

I would never own a volvo or saab, I mean their great cars but everyone and everything drives them over here.

Why do you prefer the Avant version infront of the regular sedan?

    Thanks :)

Not to hijack, but I am looking for cheap commuter wheels. I like the newer 9-3's and the 9-5, yet heard bad things about them. I test drove a 9-5 and liked it. Why do you recomend it?
    Thanks
