This year Ferrarichat.com will work in partnership with up-and-coming racing talent Michael Johnson to support his aspirations of racing in the Formula 1 World Championship.

The first stage of Johnson’s professional open-wheel career will take him to the southern hemisphere this winter (November-February) to contest the New Zealand Championship series, one of the most competitive development series in the world. The cars will be decorated in checkered flag lively and for $500 your name (or company logo) will be proudly displayed on Johnson’s racecar throughout the championship. To commemorate your sponsorship you will also receive an MJ Drive to F1 sponsor shirt, Autographed Poster, and subscription to the MJ Drive Newsletter giving an insider view from the paddock. Dear Rob, Will, Jim and the Ferrarichat community,

Thank you for the kind words. I most sincerely appreciate your support and am proud to have you are in my corner.

For those of you who have not been able to meet me I am a 23 year old racing driver from Texas who is passionate and dedicated to a career in professional motorsports and winning in Formula 1. In my career I have celebrated five karting national championships, a win in the Red Bull F1 driver search program, and represented the United States at the Karting world finals in the Canary Islands.

Off the track I am a race instructor for the Texas Driving Experience (based at Texas Motor Speedway - Ft.Worth, TX) and am working towards a Marketing degree from the University of North Texas (to better serve my sponsors). My hobbies include bicycling, soccer, and reading (although I often don't have time for them!)

The New Zealand Championship represents a launching point for my career into the world of open-wheel road racing. My goal is to travel to New Zealand to test myself and compete against some of the best drivers in the world, while the rest of the northern hemisphere is dormant for the winter.

The MJ Drive Team is my way of building a support group to takle one of the most difficult task in competing in the Formula 1 World Championship. I hope you can share in my passion and experience with me the victories and excitement, ups and down of the road to Formula 1.

Thank you and I'll see you at the track

    Michael,

I recommend anyone with an interest in racing and supporting a talented young driver to check out his www.mjdrive.com website and send Michael a PM to chat. This might be the last time we can be this personally involved with Michael before he hits it big and puts Kimi and Felipe into retirement. :)

IMHO Michael has the complete package to be successful in motorsports. Many racers have talent and you need to be at the top of the talent pool. Many racers have money, but you need the backing to carry you all the way up the ladder. Everyone has a personality, but do you have the personality to get on well with your team and sponsors? Michael started young in motorsports and did all the right things progressing in karts. Many racers try to make that young jump to open wheels, but find their talent isn't enough and they're back out again in a couple years. Michael recognized the other parts of being successful and has almost completed his degree in Business and Marketing while extending his experience in open wheels, closed wheels, and instructing while still staying sharp on the karting circuit.

Please give his website www.mjdrive.com a look.

Funny story: I had Michael out riding shotgun in the Challenge car the other day. I was driving OK, but there was one fast turn I kept going over the apex curbing unsettling the car every single lap. After about the 5th lap of this and me saying "dang" and Michael saying "stop that" he finally resorted to punching me in the arm every time I nailed the curbing and unsettling the car. :D

I find 2 flaws with this story. 1st, I don't believe Rob has ever said "Dang" in his life. I'd guess a more colorful word was used.

2nd, I think Michael was using the poor line as an excuse to pop you in the arm.

    :D

For those of you in the North Texas area this weekend 16-17 September I will contesting an SCCA regional race in the Formula Continental category.

The race will take place on the 2.5 mile roval of Texas Motor Speedway. The event is a participant friendly environment so if you come by please grab a pit pass (5-10 bucks) and come into the pits. The green flag will drop on the race sometimes after 12:30pm.

I will be driving a black and yellow Van Diemen which runs in the formula car group #2.

Send me a PM for more details.

    Cheers

    Michael Johnson,
