OBI today, Sunday was a gorgeous mid August day. The city guys and the FOLI charity event attendees were preoccupied which resulted in a limited number of exotics today at OBI. We did have a lot of the LI regulars that took the summer off stopped by. Dave brought a mint 4.2 XKE, Bob bought his 330gt. Andy with his 308, Gary with a mint TR. Also present today: a real nice 355 Spider, a new Diablo, a Lotus Esprite, several BMWs, a Jensen Interceptor and numerous late model P cars. The American group probably yielded over 300 cars: Vetts, Mustangs, Ford GTs, Vipers, historical restored cars and trucks, 30-70 hot rods and mussel cars. Lets not forget the hundred bikes that fill in the remaining spaces. Anybody who plans on coming out on Sundays, the lot fills up by 7:30 and theres a partial change over around 9:00. I would post pictures but my file sizes are always too big.
Bring this board into the 20th century and maybe those pics will be posted. Fewer restrictions makes it easier for pics to be posted. Pass this on to the Mod and the Admin. Sandy, it was good to see you yesterday - great morning! On the way home Dave, and I were cruising with Jim F. and his Hayabusa. We were on the Causeway doing maybe 70 mph; Dave in the left lane, me in the right and Jim in the center. Jimmy drops the 'busa into fifth, then fourth, then third - and drops the hammer. He was gone like a shot. Considering we were already doing 70mph... See you next time.
I didn't make it to OBI Sunday, but Saturday evening I stumbled on the Cedar Beach classic car even. Every Saturday evening during the summer (through September) at Cedar beach the Tiki Hut sponsors a car event with live music. Guys, I can tell you it was a great time! The parking lot was full of great cars, there was a live band playing from 6 to 9:30, they have a full bar and the fast food list is fairly extensive for a beach place. All this while looking at the ocean. Cedar beach is a public beach and there is no entry fee. The nice part is my wife enjoyed it as much as I did. It doesn't get much better. Instead of just tolerating car guys they actually cater to us and invite us in. It was well organize with parking lot guides. Each row was designated for a different class of car. This Saturday is cruise night. Unfortunately Ill be out of town, but Im headed there every Saturday evening that I can make until they close for the season.
I don't know if they have a web site, but Cedar beach is easy to find. If you are heading east from the city just take Ocean Parkway east from Jones Beach. Cedar beach is on the ocean side about 15 minutes past Jones Beach. OBI is anothe 5 minuts past Cedar beach.
Doubt that Captree is free......pretty sure Ms. Castro will continue to collect fees for a few more weeks. The main parking fields are still charging.........in the "old days" it was free from Labor Day on.
Fees WILL be collected between 8AM-4PM thru the month of September and probably a part of October as well.........
