Is it 1962 Daytona 3hrs #9 is Fulp - 246S - 0784 - fin. 8th #35 is Hudson - Chevy Corvette - DNF Nathan
Another coincidence - seen in the parade of cars to pay tribute to Phil Hill at Goodwood on Friday, and raced on Sunday. http://img324.imageshack.us/img324/5638/p9010164wb5.jpg Paul M
I had to do some work with photoshop to get these back. I am sure the F1 guys will know them. Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
Nice old pics, thanks David ! Am I a F1 guy ? I do prefer sportscars ... Anyway, here are JM Fangio driving the Maserati 250F in 1957 and M.Hawthorn on the Dino 156 F1 in 1959. French GP at Rheims, but I'm not sure about the years ...
Both photos are Reims 1958. Its Mike Hawthorn on the second picture, during practice for the 1958 ACF GP. Hawthorn is testing Peter Collins' car (# 42, Hawthorn # 4).
Maybe this is admitting I am getting older, but I really enjoy the memories I have when I see all of these great photos. Of course I was only out of the womb for a year, maybe two. :}
He retired from full-time racing at the end of 1957, but did the 1958 Argentine GP and then the French GP (his last) where he debuted the 'Piccolo' Maserati 250F. Paul M
Paul, Thank you for clearing that up for me. I have attached a photo from the sports car race held, I am guessing, the same weekend. A strange little French car followed by an unidentified FCar. Image Unavailable, Please Login
The Ferrari is definitely a 250GT Tour de France. I don't have all the race numbers for the 12h Reims, but I believe there were 8 (!) 250GT TdF's entered. It was held the same weekend as the French Grand Prix, July 5-6, 1958 -Jarrett
yes. 12h de Reims 1958: first place Olivier Gendebien/Paul Frère sur 250 GT "0677GT" n°64 Prova MO49 the pic: 250 GT "0619GT" Pierre Noblet "Pertin"/Jacques Peron n° 74 3eme place
Hawthorn died in a road crash - 22nd January 1959 - so was not able to defend his Championship. Nathan
That is correct. Do you have numbers for other 250 GT Berlinettas / entries? Particularly looking for numbers used by Seidel, Guelfi, Ramos, Picard. Best wishes, Kare
From wsrp.wz.cz with finish position, car #, drivers, chassis # 1. 64 Olivier Gendebien (B) Paul Frere (B) Ferrari 250 GT 0677GT 2. 84 Willy Mairesse (B) "Jean Beurlys" (B) Ferrari 250 GT 0969GT 3. 74 Jacques Péron (F) Pierre Noblet (B) Ferrari 250 GT 0805GT 4. 68 Wolfgang Seidel (D) Wolfgang von Trips(D) Ferrari 250GT 0879GT 5. 78 François Picard (F) Georges Burggraff (F) Ferrari 250 GT 0901GT 7. 76 Jean Guichet (F) Régis Fraissinet (F) Ferrari 250 GT 0607GT 10. 66 Hermano da Silva Ramos (BR)Phil Hill (USA) Ferrari 250 GT 0749GT DNF 80 André Guelfi (F) Dan Gurney (USA) Ferrari 250 GT 0731GT Accident DNF 70 Sture Nottorp (S) Ivar Andersson (S) Ferrari 250 GT 0903GT DNF 72 Jean Aumas (F) Wirtz Ferrari 250 GT 0747GT
Willy Mairesse 's codriver real name was Jean Blaton. He usually raced under "Jean Beurly" but strangely in that race he was entered as "Jean Haldaux".
Jean Blaton "Beurlys" a brother, André Blaton "Blarys" and more drivers Ferrari: André Balton - "Blary" Corentin - "Rivillon" E. Buzzi - "Madero" Edoardo Gabardi - "Lualdi" Ernst Lautenschlager - "Conti" Gavrois - "Lorica" Gunther Placheta - "Gunther Philips" ou "Julio Pavesi" Guy Ancez - "Remordu" Jean Aumas - "Orville" Jean Blaton - "Beurlys" Leon Dernier - "Heldé" ou "LD" P. Ferraro - "Ipocrate" Pierre Dumay - "Loustel" Pierre Noblet - "Pertin" W. Koenig - "Robert Franck" Michel Poberjsky - "Mike Sparken" Mario Tropia - "Caterpillar"
AFAIK "Dr. Günther Plachetta" was a pseudonym used by a man named Günther Philip, not the other way around.
Bertocchi: It looks like Colin Chapman to the left of the guy in the blue jacket as Gurney approaches the crowd. Mark
Mark, I believe you are correct about Colin Chapman. Is that Carlo Chiti across from them in the beige sweater? Regards, David
David , I dont think thats Chiti , no cap , wrong glasses. I have mystery (one of many)In the Grand Prix Data Book by Hayhoe and Holland in the first picture section is a colour picture of Brooks "hiding" a car and Chiti in front of a transporter. The pic is the Monza garages for the I GP in 1959.The transporter looks brand new and was in 1960 used by Camoradi at least at Nurburgring and Le Mans. If anyone can guess the car behind Brooks I can guess the transporter( By the way was there any supporting races?) Regards Bjørn Kjer( I AM aeware that answering demands the book ; I cannot scan ,sorry!)
