Ignoring the make of the car or the profile of the driver, what we actually have here is....... Un-Marked police car witness's car driving dangerously. Car has no number plates on it (isn't this a legal requirement, and makes checking to see if the car is stolen a tad difficult!!) Driver refuses to get out of car.......or even off the phone! (hmmm does this guy really want to annoy the police!) Police open car door and "advise" driver to get out or else Police find Driver does not have licence (isn't this a legal requirement) Police find Driver does not have insurance (isn't this a legal requirement) Police find car not registered (isn't this a legal requirement) Driver arrested and taken to police station until his identity and that of the vehicle can be assertained If this had happened to anybody else it wouldn’t be news worthy (and really shouldn’t be in this case), if this had been a $0.50 lookalike in a stolen car would anybody be complaining. It doesn’t matter if he's black brown white or even purple with green stripes, the laws the law and he's not exempt from it. Refusing to co-operate with the people upholding the law is just plain stupid and disrespectful of the law.
Here's another view: http://home.bellsouth.net/s/s.dll?ep=62300&_pgoffset=599&only=y&pnum=&media=mms://media.bellsouth.net/wmp/ap/0908x50cent_arrest_300.wmv
You're right about it being in his contract and the endorsements. However, $10 would be more than the wholesale price of the CD which is being sold. An entry level artist might get $1 per CD sold, often less in hiphop because of the prevalence of producers who take a cut (up to 50% if you sign a terrible "production deal" before your record deal - see http://www.rapcoalition.org/production_deals_suck.htm for details). Real star territory might be around $2 per unit, I think more than that would be a superstar artist. Of course, he would have renegotiated and gotten his own sublabel to release his latter records which kicks him some more cash because he'll pay himself twice as sublabel owner and artist (although the top line major will still take their cut too). Most artists make more from touring, but again, hip hop stars don't really tour like rock acts do nor do they draw rock crowds - except for the Eminem tours or G-Unit tours but there you have a number of top rap artists who are going to split the door proceeds (and given the politics of hiphop I wouldn't be surprised if the headliners took the lion's share and the lower ticket artists got very little). I don't think 50 makes the bulk of his money touring - I could be wrong, but that would be an anomaly in rap, as I understand it. However, where 50 excels is in marketing himself as a brand, so he probably makes 25% of the retail of clothes and merchandise with his name or G-Unit on it (25% being a higher end merch deal), some for his licensed video games, endorsements. Not sure he's recouped on his movie, but I'm sure he got an actor's fee and is now waiting for the back end with the DVD sales. EDIT: This is for 2004, but shows the breakdown: 19. 50 Cent $24.9 MILLION ON THE ROAD His Beg for Mercy Tour grossed $4 million. ON CD Dr. Dre and Eminem's protege (who is co-signed to their record labels, Aftermath and Shady) is now out-earning both of them. 50 has earned $14 million in royalties from Get Rich or Die Tryin' since its 2003 release, and a record-contract renegotiation last year won him a reported extra $8 million payout. Not to mention the substantial royalties 50 earned on cds by artists on his G Unit label (such as, er, G Unit and G Unit member Lloyd Banks). Meanwhile, the Game's Number One debut gave 50 Cent's 2005 a strong start. ON THE SIDE Reebok sold more than 1 million pairs of G Unit sneakers, netting 50 Cent at least $6 million in royalties. Seriously! They also said in the NY Post, when the cops were asked why he was arrested, they all said they were trying to get him away from the crowd's and people to a safer place, that's why , i almost fell off my chair LOL!
Or, he could be getting hosed by label and everything else. They keep him happy with Lambo's and ***** but keep him on a short leash whereby he's always owing them for the lifestyle. Not sure, he may be smarter than to fall for that.
Here's a video of what hapened, of all things it was the chrome Murcie roadster painted by ALSA Corp. http://today.reuters.com/tv/videoChannel.aspx?storyid=07a50dc8bfef78ea8a061882679ef02c4e410a1c Some photos I found from the L P site. He was on his way to meet Paris Hilton. Dan Patrick will bail him out (if you listen to ESPN Radio you know what I mean).
I actually thought something like that also. I read it somewhere once before about musician's in general. Its very small amount compared to what the record label get ect.......
Here's the vid on youtube if you suffer with the other clips (as I did!) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=c-c22vxPI10 IMO, they did what they should have done. What amazes me is the lack of class and discretion shown by general public! Ok, so he's a celeb, but does that mean he deserves to have the ordeal taped an put all over the internet? Nope. Nice car though.
Actually its a paint that looks like chrome, there is a BMW and a few other cars that I know of that have it done. There is a website for the shop that does it, but I seem to have misplaced the link for it.
You are right. But there is another view worth to note: What makes you a celeb? Yes, worldwide attention by "the rest of the pack"! But the law is the same, eh? So, Mr. "50% of the Dollar" got now again worldwide attention. Same as this stupid Hollywood actor who gave statements of racism some weeks ago. Most of the rappers seem to have their head for wearing a cap only(IMO). Ciao! Walter
William is right. These cops over-reacted and abused their power. A. his driving was probably no different than any other member of this board as far as the excuse to stop him B.The real reason was probably what I see on the thread in off-topic, racism and jealousy. C. If he was driving w/o certain items, he should have been ticketed and the car towed. D. The video shows a calm 50cent and a mental midget reaching for his GUN for what reason I do not know. The cops know who he is, they know he can afford everything in question, most is probably covered by his managers and lawyers. No Cop nowhere has the right to pull a gun on anyone for a non-violent offence by a peaceful citizen. Stand up for your rights people. The US was never intended to be a police state. In fact just the opposite. If you expect such treatment you are no american!
