What is this room like, exactly? I've been listening to Peter Windsor conduct these post-race interviews for who knows how long, and today I was finally convinced that this room consists of just the 3 podium finishers, Peter, and a camera. I used to assume it was a typical press room full of reporters and cameramen, but they must all be in a second room watching it, either through glass or via remote feed. There's just no way that, through all the highs and lows F1 has experienced over the years, that every post-race interview could maintain a whisper-quiet atmosphere unless the room was empty. Anyone have any insight? Also, how has F1 NOT sold licensing rights to the post-race hydration beverage??? It's interesting how they view the sanctity of that entire podium/interview process.

By the way, I think Windsor does an excellent job with it. It may seem easy on the surface, but it's a pretty prestigious position.

I agree, Peter is the man. I've always wondered about these interviews too. Does anyone else do interviews like this? Or is it a Speed exclusive?

No, he is THE interview man for F1. SpeedTV just has a deal with him to do trackside reporting. You notice that, as Speed fades out, he asks the drivers to say a few words in their home language.

Why would it be a speed exclusive? The interviewer is not American he is English isnt he?? We dont get speed in the UK and the TV coverage is done by the English ITV channel over here. So whats the deal guys? Are there a few interviews that go on ,one after another?

I understand Peter does the end of race podium interviews for F1 for ALL broadcasts internationally. During the race, he does commentary for SpeedTV in the USA, but I have to believe he also might make comments for other networks during the race. But in the interview room, he belongs to F1.

I believe that Peter is given the privelege to conduct the first round of interviews of the three drivers after which the drivers speak in their own language. Following this the questions are thrown open to the rest of the journos - it becomes the extended interview. Whether the drivers move to a different room for the extended interview or it is done in the same room as the first interview - I dont know for sure....

If they do, we in the UK dont hear about it. All we see is the 3 guys at the table in the basic after race interview. If they do extra interviews this would be a bummer for the UK fans becourse afterall arnt 80% of all the F1 teams HQs are based in the UK. So i wonder why we dont see the whole interviews.

I think that, if they do any other interviews, they're probably more like the typically repetitive Q&A affairs that the press is so good at. But in all likelihood, the drivers leave the room and head back to their respective team domains. I just thought it was a bit funny because all these years I pictured them sitting in this large room full of anxious journalists quietly taking in the comments. In reality, it's probably a 10x10 box with the F1 backdrop and 3 pitchers of Gatorade.

That's why I thought it was a Speed thing. I didn't realize he only did speed commentary during the race, and the interviews were broadcast everywhere.

Thanks for clearing that up :)
