Well Im still trying to sell my Ferrari 360, I just cant tell whether to sell the damn thing at the exact price I want or mark it up 5k then sell it at best offer. I mean Im only asking 95k since its a Euro car but just seems like everyone on ebay send me offers for 85k and 70k even though I have my best price already up there. Im starting to think I should put a higher price and put best offer on it so people think they are doing good by bringing me down a couple of grand. I mean its stupid but I really think that the mentality is that if I take less than Im asking they are getting a better deal, what do you guys think?

george...i think you are onto something.

most ebay participants want an opportunity to feel they are getting something for a less than the perceived market value.

regardless of how attractive your price is, when you put a Buy It Now as the only option, it takes the game out of bargain hunting.

It's just human nature to want to bargain you down. People hate paying what someone's asking, no matter how good of a price it is.

I'd price it at $105,000 and when they offer you $95,000 you can make them think it's killing you, but okay, you'll take it and they'll go around telling everyone how they stole it.

So ture as far as ebay goes. The best examples are found at garage sales.

Cheap Ass: "How much for this shirt."

Me: "$0.25, it's brand new and never worn."

Cheap Ass: "That is way too much, what about $0.10."

    SMH...

Yes, as a salesmen, it's the general rule that even when you are ripping someone off, you always make them feel like they are getting a deal.

There are three things at the bottom of the ocean.

Sharks, Lawyers, and Salesmen. I don't like your kind. I am an anti-salesperson.

My least favorite part of the eBay experience was how people who contact you to make offers act INSULTED that you've priced the car where you have...

I.e. I post my '04 Gallardo w/ 20k miles for sale on eBay. Prices at $132.5k, which was, at the time, $5k - $10k less than any Gallardo on the planet.

I'd still get people calling and saying "So I see you're selling a Gallardo? MAN that's SO MANY miles! How can you be asking $132.5k! That's NUTS! I've never seen a car with so many miles! Who would want that?" ....

....well if you don't like the car, why did you call me? Guess it's another buyer's strategy...guilt the seller into lowering his price? ;)

    Take it outside boys. Actuallly a salesman can't make anyone buy anything and the good ones don't 'rip someone off'. A salesmans job is simply;
    - help you understand the pros and cons of the purchase/product
    - you make a decision
    - we are done

As a salesman my job is to educate and help you work through the buying process. Of course I highlight the benefits and value of my product but that is part of education.

If I don't have the right solution for you today, or if there is a huge benefit to the competition, I will tell you that. I win from that too, you will come back and buy from me in the future and I may have the right solution then.

End rant ... sorry to jack your thread

    John,

A good honest reply, which was needed in reply to jordanair45, who was totally negative.

Good salesmen do themselves proud. they are necessary because some people just can't go out and buy on their own, they need to be guided.

Guided being the operative word, not ripped off.

I would put a buy it now at 107k...put your reserve price as the minimum first bid...so if you are happy with 95k, then make that the lowest starting bid. The only people that will offer you 70-80k would be people trying to flip the car. Someone that really wants to drive the F car and keep it will pay at least 95K. On the other hand, I will give you 85k now and then the burden is on me to flip it. HAHA just kidding.

If I wasn't in the middle of building a house I would have been seriously looking at your car, when I get my Ferrari I want one that I can drive alot and the lower price b/c it's a euro makes it attractive. Have you tried autotrader, dupont or any of the other sites online other than ebay?

Your profile lists you as a student, and you appear to be in San Jose, CA. So let me suggest to you that someday, when you invent a neat new widget, and start a company, you'll be glad that your patent lawyers protected your widget, glad that your sales force beat the Chinese to your buyers, glad that your securities lawyers help you go public, tickled pink to see that your earliest joining sales guys finally got some of the money they so richly deserved for putting you on the map.

Then you'll buy your real Ferrari, or maybe by then you will prefer another marque, say something more aggressive, maybe that looks like a...... oh, I don't know.......... shark, maybe?

Not sure what you are taking in school, but see if you can't get some time in a martial art ( I suggest Aikido) , or perhaps a diplomacy class. It will be good when you find that the world will care more about your outcomes when you care more about the feelings and outcomes of others. And it may not matter to you now, but at least once in life, it will be of great comfort to you to know that the world is concerned about your, personal, outcomes.

Ferraris are wonderful cars (except perhaps my former Testarossa), but having a positive network of people in your life, and you shoring them up, will make you feel far MORE wonderful than any Ferrari.

OK maybe not better than a 250 GTO.......

One day 100,000,000 of the stupdest people in the world decided they wanted to buy and sell, thus e-bay was created.

I'm one of those "stupdest" people, and a product I sold on ebay helped me pay for college and have a nice chunk of change on hand going into the real world. I suppose pimping your product on a internet forum is more classy.

Not intended towards anybody in general, I use ebay at times as do many people, my point was that when selling Ferrari's or auto-related product on e-bay from personal experience the majority of people aren't very bright. When selling a 95 F355 on e-bay not too long ago I spoke with 21 different buyers all of whom wasted my time with the most ridiculous requests and questions.

When it comes to selling parts don't even get me started here but here's an example - http://ferrarichat.com/forum/showthread.php?t=99454&highlight=ebay

I think you took my comment the wrong way, but from personal experience the majority of trade I've done on e-bay as a buyer or seller has been with stupid people, I'm sure there are many smart people who are on e-bay but personally I hate it and don't run across them. I apologize if I offended you in anyway.

And yes I'd rather deal with great f-chatters all day whom I have over a 95% succes ratio in dealing with and look forward to talking to than sticking my products up on e-bay and wanting to commit suicide at the end of the day, just the way I feel about it and if you click my other thread, the majority on here will agree.

To the original poster - I recommend raising the price of your car as TrentS suggested, if somebody gets an additional discount it makes them feel good about themselves even if the deal isn't that great. I bought my Maserati for $60k, when it was listed at $63k, had it been listed at $60k I would have expected a discount.

    Regards,
    Kevin

Other methods to selling your 360

Consign it to a dealer - In my opinion the least hassle and the extra commission you pay to the dealer is off-set by the fact that they get more for your car.

Contact Wholesalers - Never hurts, they will probably low-ball you but you may find one you can work a deal out with.

duPont Registry - Expensive but the print attracts quite a bit of buyers, talk to Robert there and tell him Kevin from MVP sent you.

    List it on ferrariads.com

List it on Ferrari Market Letter

That's all I can suggest at the moment.

I took it the wrong way, I apologize. I am a bit suprised that high end parts for high end cars attracts incompetent people. The internet's greatest strength is sometimes it's greatest plague (accessibility). I'm sure the particular product has a lot to do with it. Some products attract a great deal of knowledge and wealth. The Subaru 360 community practically flourishes on e-bay and they all know one another. Maybe high end sports cars attract a lot of buyers that aren't serious buyers. People that are dreamers or just want to call and chat, but would never buy. Nothing inherently wrong with this but go to a chat room, don't bother you! Sorry again for the confusion and good luck to the OP on his sale. People are definitely looking for a deal on ebay! That is the nature of most auctions anyways, virtual or not.
