Yup. It's the backup/reserve trunk opener (one for each side).

You've also got a reserve/backup cable for your engine hatch (inside the gas lid) as well as a reserve cable for your gas lid (inside your engine compartment).

Lots of redunduncy on 348's, such as a limp-home mode that runs 4 cylinders if there is a problem with the other half of the engine, two ABS computer cards inside the ABS box, both of which monitor the other and can take over if the other fails, etc.

I've looked for this cable inside my engine compartment for my gas lid. I was at the gas station a few months back and couldn't get the lid to deploy.

Anyone have a picture of where this cable is? I couldn't find it inside my 348.

If no one has a picture I can take one this weekend. It's pretty obvious though. It's very close to the gas cap itself and looks like the handle in my picture above..

"Shaft" and I would be happy to point out the emergency backup release for the fuel filler door inside the engine compartment. As a tip, make sure that the handle is pushed all the way back into the cable - if it's part way out, the filler door may not latch shut properly.

Of course, information like this is readily available in the Owners Handbook.

If you hunt along the left side of the engine bay you will find it.

Kind of like me 2 weeks ago. Bought car, jumped in to drive home, stopped to gas up before getting on the turnpike. Dawned on me I had no idea how to open it. Luckily I saw the button but didn't have the key in. Needless to say it took 45 to figure things out fill up and get out of there...

Note to self. Take a few minutes to peruse the owners manual before taking off in a unfamiliar car...
