This is not a replica, but a Vette with stickers. There is a difference.

why bother? they look (and are) lame. far too expensive and frustrating for me.

if i had the skills it took to do a "replica" ( ) i'd make something of my own creation rather than go for wank status of copying something else.

    Really?

All I can say I had a blast when my friend took me on a night ride through the countryside of Southern England. All 12 cylinders roaring and late breaking for the apexes around the sharp bends. I was "breaking" myself a lot in the passenger seat. Was glad when he had to stop to refuel. Gave my heart beat a moment to slow down and the adrenalin levels to subside.

well, i have no idea what that car is, and the adrenalin rush of someone driving their car like a ferrari just because they've made it look like one is one i'm happy to pass on.

on our last trip (couple weeks ago) we were usually cruising at 220-250kph, and regularly hitting speeds of 270 through to over 300kph. in fact i've been in around 10 different cars at speeds of around 290kph and over on public roads, once you hit 250 you really start to question the sanity of a manufacturer that says their car is capable of such a speed, but oh-so-glad they've put the hard yards in with their R&D before you strapped it on.

I totally agree with the own creation part which is why i got into the kitcar secene in the first place.

I think its stupid to slap on a body kit on a Supra or civic and think its cool. If im gonna spend a ****load of money on a car it better not apear to be a Honda at the end of the day.

It is based on a Jaguar with a proper V12. The molds for the body were taken straight off a real Daytona. Built by the folks who did the Coupe to Spyder conversions back in the eighties. Engine is way behind the front axle, which gives the car an ideal weight distribution.

You seem to have a bit of an obsession with the speed argument. Not all cars (replicas or real) are designed to go flat out beyond 250 km/h. Some folks actually enjoy a thrilling drive at lower speeds. In fact to me the most interesting drives are up and down some curvy mountain passes. You rarely exceed 100 km/h on those roads.

Particularly vintage Ferraris rarely push the speed envelopes you're talking about, even if they theoretically could.

Building a proper replica is expensive, true. Which is why it makes no sense to try to replicate e.g. a 355 or a 308 on Fiero basis. By the time you're done, you spent enough money to buy a real 308. Also replicating a mass produced car like a 355 or the 430 (kit on Peugeot basis) has little appeal because the point of those cars is speed (the ashsimmonds argument). And you won't get there based on a Fiero or Peugeot.

Replicas make more sense when they focus on a car that costs insane money, so even the replica build cost remain a fraction of the original price. Also if they focus on vintage cars, the speed argument is less of an issue. Even owners of real Daytona Spyders rarely reach the limits of what the engine can do.

As for the build your own dream car argument: Part of the fun building a replica is to see how close can you get to the original. If you base your car on your own design, well there isn't really a way to measure your success. It's not the same challenge anymore. What fascinates me about replicas is to see how close they got it to the real thing. Somebody's own design has no appeal to me.

sorry, but i don't see why he had to ruin a Jag to pretend it's a Ferrari (and i never will). if someone asked me if i'd like a ride in their Jag i'd love to, if however they asked if i wanted a ride in their Jag with a bodykit to make it look like a Ferrari i'd be like thanks but no thanks.

hmm, not exactly obsessed with speed, however it's been on my mind a lot lately, as it's a very real concern to know that a car is adequately equipped to do it when you're planning a 5 day trip with a bunch of folks who want to drive fast... 26 pages of pics/vids/stories http://www.ferrarichat.com/forum/showthread.php?t=117583

but no, my favourite type of driving *is* tight twisty hills stuff, which is why my weapon of choice is a beefed up X1/9, and in the next year or two i'll be looking to get either an Ariel Atom, Lotus Exige, Lamborghini Jalpa, or *gasp* a Stratos replica. but no, a 'genuine replica' ( :p ), NOT just putting a funky bodykit on my X1/9.

    Care to elaborate?

I think Sparro made some 1:1 Stratos replicas, but they cost insane money (might as well buy the real deal). Aside from that I only know the Noble Stratos replicas, which can use a 308 engine. I looked at those once, and they are nice, but boy they leave the builder with lots of parts to find themselves. Barely a kit car.

Ok lets just say you can buy the orginal,

How much would the insurance, maintaince and repairs cost on the orginal? Alot!

Thats why some people do have to money to buy the orginal but they choose not to because they don't want to pay over 10k a year in maintaince not to mention if the glass breaks on a orginal Diablo thats 8k right there for just a window. And oh man insurance will break you in half, probably cost more than one payment of the car if you where to finance it.

So the bottom line is yeah a Diablo built on a custom chassis will costs about as much as a new SRT-10 or a used 91 Diablo, but with all the brand new GM parts that are used its not going to cost as much to maintain a replica diablo as it would the orginal.

Its like with a 308 replica based on a fiero, most builders say you could build one that will easly out perform the orginal and be cheaper which is why they do it. Same goes for Cobra and GT-40 replicas.

Hawk Stratos. i'm not building it myself, i'd want one that's well sorted and been through it's paces already. thing is the guys who own the real deal give cred to these reps, and that's important to know (for me anyhoo). but yeah i'd definitely have to have the Ferrari (dino :p ) engined one, the V6 from the 246, but massaged a bit too. i think doing a Stratos and using a fiat/lancia 4banger is kind of missing the point.

Oops, I meant Hawk, not Noble, those make P4. Sorry. Yes, definitely go for the 308 engine. QV ideally.

Pantera, your points are well taken and probably the reason why we rarely see Daytona Spyders around town anymore, despite the fact, that there are some around. The owners just don't drive them anymore. Which is why I much rather see a Jag with a Daytona body than a Jag. Those are prevalent.

well, there's a couple guys around here with stuff like a Miura and a Countach and Diablo, but you never see them on the road for one reason or another. however, i'm content to not see them vs seeing bodykit versions of them getting around the streets... the giddyness at first sight is equal to the distaste once you realize what you're looking at. kinda like ogling a hot chick only to notice a disturbing bulge under that skirt.... :p

I'm just wondering what the reserve is lol...The starting bid is higher that what I assumed it to be...I like how he tries to build up a state of rushing, "before I complete it and list it for much higher, lol".....

I understand what folks say about replicas....You wouldn't see me own a kit like a Lambo, Ferrari, GT, or nothing like that..Those cars really aren't unobtainable. Only thing I'd really consider and have been considering is either the 65 Roadster Mark III from Factory Five Racing or the Ultima GTR:

    http://www.factoryfive.com/table/ffrkits/roadster/gallery/roadstergallery.html
    http://www.ultimasports.co.uk/gtr/downloads.html

In which you would have a fresh chasis and a well thought out/planned kit car. Like I said before, I couldn't afford an original and would be scared to drive it if I was able to just because of the value or history. I'd want to see something like that in a museum.

I kind of like the Type 65 Coupe, but I don't know why, the roadster just seems like it would be a more pleasureable weekend warrior/cruiser.

    http://factoryfive.com/table/ffrkits/coupe/gallery/coupegallery.html

The 65 Roadster or the GTR are my only kit picks that I think I would respect.

Which is also why now you can buy a replica of the early Bugatti race cars and even take them to historic racing events. Actually even sanctioned.

And who says a kitcar has to be cheap.....

Look at the Mosler Photon 900TT, that should be labled as a Kitcar and the priced for that is astronomical at 200k.
