There was someone on another forum who lost there data and they used a recovery program to try and salvage what he could. I belive norton makes a program called ghost which does this as well.

    Try
Search - hard drive data recovery software

I had that once... Lost a big project. I was recommended some company which recovers data from hdd and their quote was around $1200. So it's up to you if it's worth it.

You have to remember that if it's mechanical failure any software wont help you - you have to manual read data from hdd - sector by sector, byte by byte and put all of this together.

And NEVER.....NEVER install additional software on the drive you want to recover. Buy/beg/borrow another machine, buy a replacement drive....connect all drives & copy (ie GHOST) the bad drive to the new (assuming it can be read), disconnect the bad drive & recover the ghosted drive. Expect to spend hours & hours (reads quite a few days) recovering some of the data. And any mistake you make may render what you really want inaccessible. and GHOST isn't the best software out there. Some of the better products easily run you $500 & up. Add all that up & you come up with $1000 being a pretty darn resonable charge for getting back some to most of your damaged drive.

Catch Rob Lay and his attempt at recovering FChat from a hard drive failure. It wasn't fun.
