Ok so I am having dinner at Toast on Third tonight with two of my friends. I'm sitting facing west and my two friends across form me facing east. All of a sudden I see a 07 Tahoe flying up the road at my guess well over 65mph.

I yelled at my friend and said high speed chase!! The guy all of a sudden tries to make a sudden left turn and the car starts to under-steer. The car is now sliding towards our table at high rate of speed. Everyone behinds us jumps up and runs. We are stuck and frozen. The car then lets go of the brake and cuts it back right to go straight but the back end slides out and almost hits the valet there.

He SOMEHOW gets control and makes the next left instead.

This car would have come straight into me and my friends along with the two guys sitting behind us, if not into the whole restaurant.

I must say this is one of the scariest things I have encountered in a longggg time.

Whats up with these people in LA who run? Why do so many people do it here?

    Antony

Well it's usually low income / welfare people that run to avoid warrents or the car is stolen. Still i don't know why it's more common in LA than anywhere else.

I've said it before and I'll say it again.....there is a simple solution.

The Governor announces that a fleeing vehicle is a lethal threat to society and can not be allowed to pose this vehicular threat. Then we take some bodes from the morgue, set-up a remote-control unit in the car they are placed in....then put together a staged chase to be covered by TV. A helicopter comes along, paint a 10 second warning dot on the hood and then blows the car up. Actual loss of life, zero...perception by public: run & you die!

It is simply a matter of time until a fleeing car loses control and causes severe casualties.....then law enforcement can move to take intense action to stop this kind of crap. Besides, think of the ratings when people tune-in to see if the car stops before the helicopter lights 'em up! :)

technically, that's not a near death experience ... but it must still be scary as hell!!! I always wonder what I would do if I was sitting there ... would I freeze, run, or dance samba on the table?

You'll get more street cred if you tell it like this:
"The car is now sliding towards our table at high rate of speed. The pansies sitting behind us decided to cut and run, screaming like girls I might add. Not me though. I stood strong; ready to take it like a man."

I like that, but if you have to say you're ready to take it like a man it loses a little flavor. How about:

"RUN!!". the crowd shrieked...almost unsettling my pull on a 40 year old Laphroaig. Run? If these gang-bangers drive like they shoot the safest place to be is right in front of them, so I sat up a little to better my view. Besides, you never, I mean never rush a good scotch.

Glad to here you're ok Antony.

    ROFLMFAO!!!

Let's keep on going with the variations.

"The sheep around me all herded to what they thought was a safe place. Shocked by their mediocrity, I took a sip and calmly walked to the window. As the out of control 4ton monster was hurling towards me like a freight train, I lifted my right hand, with a slight amount of meditation, I just put them back on their wheels in a proper racing line around the curve. As they were hitting the apex, I was back eating my delicious steak, surrounded by clapping and cheering from the bunch of mediocre cowards. I closed my fists and their eyeballs exploded. Then I laughed histerically."

Ok so I am having dinner at (no pun intended) Toast on Third tonight with two of my friends. I'm sitting facing west and my two friends across form me facing east. As I raise my glass to make another toast, I see a 07 Tahoe flying up the road at my guess well over 65mph.

I nudged at my friend and said, hmmppph, another high speed chase. The guy all of a sudden tries to make a sudden left turn and the car starts to under-steer. The car is now sliding towards our table at high rate of speed. Everyone behinds us jumps up and runs. We languidly stifled yawns as we ordered another round. The car then lets go of the brake and cuts it back right to go straight but the back end slides out and almost hits the valet there.

He somehow gets control and makes the next left instead.

This car would have come straight into me and my friends along with the two guys sitting behind us, if not into the whole restaurant, but, no matter, drinks were on the house, where everyone else thought they were toast.

I must say this is one of the funniest things I have encountered in a longggg time.

Whats up with these people in LA who run every time a car careens towards them? Why do so many people do it here?

    Steve,
I agree.... I think...Put 3 Apache Helicopters on duty in LA and the running will stop right away.

I agree - you didn't get caught up in the beam of bright white light like Patrick Swayze in "Ghost".

This is exactly why there is a "No Chase" policy into effect throughout the U.S. The police officers just choose to ignore this.

Imagine he would have loss control of the car and barreled into a restaurant full of innocent people. A bunch of innocent bystanders wwould have been killed because the police officer couldn't keep his ego in check.

By law, they are supposed to chase crimanls in extreme cases, armed robbery or homicide.
