I just bought my 328 GTS a year ago (1987. 30 000 km), in close to councours conditions after she had spent a "quite" life in Switzerland. Now based in France, what a pleasure to rev her up on a sunny day, in the hilly Beaujolais countryside. And if, factually, she is undeniably a bit old performance wise, when I look at her I cannot help thinking : what still a nice shape ...! Image Unavailable, Please Login
I've always thought that if you were to start with a blank sheet of paper and a pencil, and sketch out what the quintessential Ferrari should look like, you'd wind up with something like the 308/328. You couldn't help it. To me, all other mid-engine Ferraris [indeed mid-engined non-Fs as well] always seem like efforts to "get away from" this simple, beautiful, perfect ideal - for the sake of novelty, variety, whatever. At the end of the day they all fail, leaving the viewer thinking, "It's more/less OK, but it isn't as pretty as the 308/328."
DEAD ON--I've always thought this.... It still holds true. I can't think of any other 30-year-old design that I can say that about.. Isn't it wonderful that they're affordable for the average Joe?! Greg 77 308
Amen to that! When I was looking to get a Ferrari, I was really hoping for an F355 but quickly realized I couldn't afford one, so I wound up with a 328. Now I'm glad I did!
Agreed, the 308/328 is THE quintessential Ferrari outline. JLC your car looks great. Just out of curiosity, where in Switzerland did you buy it? Cheers Simon
Indeed I bought in England (Ipswitch) from a small dealer whose activity is particularly to import Ferraris from Switzerland in extremely good conditions (low mileage...).
timeless classic, wonderful lines and great sound.I wonder how later models will fare in say 20 years time. My thoughs are they begin to look like designs by committee, never a good thing!
if i'm not mistaken, the 308/328 body style was the last one designed by pinin farina before he died...anyone know if i'm right?
Well, there's the 250GTO, the P3/P4/246GT, the Disco Volante/330GTS/Alfa Spider, ... Classic Ferraris were the best of all worlds -- engines and rolling chassis from Ferrari, coachwork from specialists, upholstery from specialists -- a collection of work from some of the best in their fields. Sort of an "all star" game or "race of champions" in each car.
I fully agree, the 308/328 series is the best looking car Ferrari has made since the Dino! the thing I like is that when my car was made 86 Enzo was still alive... I know it does not add to the value, but the thought that he was still going into the office... he could have looked at my car when it was going out for its test run.... who knows.... thats why I wanted one from the era he was still alive. As for your location - paradise! I love that part of the world!!! I love Burgandy wines - drink much Chambertin??? clos Vougeot? What a dream to be driving along the Rhone... stopping for lunch at Collngnes Sur Mont d'Or... sipping the latest Clos de Bez... then hopping in the 328 with the top off... in the fall... smoke from all the vines wafting in the air...no place better!!! Let me know if you ever need company for one of your drives!!!
I should have clarified--I meant that the 308/328 design still looks "contemporary", after 30 years. The above-mentioned models, though awesome, do not.. Greg
As a designer myself, I have to say that the 328 looks great from any angle. Every line of the car follows through to the next.

The 308 never did it for me but the Dino and the 355 are lovely.
