I raced with this young lad in 2001 in the Skip Barber Series. Well...race with, might not be the best way to describe it.....actually I was on the track with him but he was so damn fast I never got a chance to race with him.

    http://www.autosport.com/newsitem.asp?id=27250&s=11

A few months back we had a thread on "what it takes to be a great racer" (or something along those lines).

I recounted my experience with some of the young kart kids from South America who were racing with me in the Skip Barber Formula Dodge series. I mentioned a kid by the name of Ernesto Viso (Andreas you may remember this thread).

He did very well last year in the sholarship class of British F3 winning the F3 B class Championship and this year he is winning against the likes of Piquet and other F3 talents. He is running with a second tear team but beating the established champions.

Hoping he makes it to F1 so someday I can tell my kids...........I raced against him when I was younger................sort of !!!!!

Venezuela. His dad owns several big companies. This kid has talent and money to get to F1.

He won every race in the 01 Skip Barber Eastern Regional Series. He literally lapped me twice in one 30 minute session in the rain. I thought I had lost my motor he went by so fast.

I know this is an old thread but the guy I competed against in the Skip Barber Series finished 6th this past weekend at Hungary in only his 4th F3000 race.

I spoke with one of his instructors at Skip Barber over the weekend and it's rumored he is in discussions so that he may do a test over the winter with an F1 team possibly Williams.

I don't think there's really any such thing as an "old thread."

Aside from thinking your motor must be out - did your mind just do distracting cartwheels for the rest of the race in which he passed you twice in a short time?

Methinks it's still doing cartwheels... he's that good.

The guy was unreal. At the time I only had about 2 season of racing under my belt so there were other people who were faster but not that fast.

It was at Lime Rock and I just rember at the end of the straight in the pouring rain everyone was having trouble matching revs and getting their cars under control under braking (a lot of sliding off). He would just be balzing down the straight and rip off perfectly matched downwhifts on his sequential box like a machine gun.

There was another quick kid from Japan who ultimately ended up making it pretty high up in the Japanese formulas but Enesto beat him pretty bad too.

I knew he must be fast............he was 15 or 16 years old and had his own press guy and some guy following him around with a big TV/VCR camera.

I am not sure if he will make it to F1 but it's sure cool rooting for the guy to make it.

    Regards,

    Jon

“It is amazing, it is finally here! Finally I got a win – last year was hard for me because I didn't get any wins. I knew I could get it but I didn't have a competitive enough car for a win or the championship. This season I'm very happy with my choice to come to iSport.”

Racing with the young prospects is one of the best aspects of Skippy, I think. I taught Ryan Hunter-Reay and Michael Valiante, among others, everything they know ... about passing backmarkers. ;)

LOL! I remember when I did Skippy it was the early stages of Milka Duno's (sp?) foray into racing. She was there with us, but also had her own private instructor as well.

    Gilles,

That was most likely Vic Elford who coached her for years.

Did she attempt to take out the front runner at Skippy School like she did in the Challenge series?

When I did the 3 day Skip at Lime Rock I had an instructor who did better lap times then most of us......the difference was he was driving a 12 paasenger Dodge Van around the track with all of us in it.....a ride you will never forget.

    His name was Boris Said.

Got one of those rides as well at Skippy School. Except that it was head instructor Bruce McInnes. We had three women at the school who were sent by Michelin for thee days. They were all three sitting in the back of the van for a ride on the course during a lapping excercise.

We had one guy in our school group who was some sort of "adrenaline junky". He did skydiving, mountain climbing and other crazy stuff.

He was sitting in the front passenger seat and at one point bet Bruce McInnes lunch, that Bruce couldn't pass three or more Formula cars on the same lap.

Bruce eventually caught 3 cars on the same lap and passed them.

Two of the three women in the back of the van got our and left for the bathroom.

I pitty to the poor person who buys those vans at auction. They've been beaten to sh*t and back.

    Regards,

    Jon

LOL! This was pretty early on in her adventure, and at the time the only thing she was any good at taking out in plain view was her womanly assets;) Is Vic Elford British? The name sounds like it, and he definitely was a Brit. Even back then they maintained a halo around her, so there wasn't much chance to get close and chit chat. Had to keep it at gaping distance.

Looks like Ernesto will get a shot at driving an F1 car.

Viso to drive third Midland in Brazil

By Jonathan Noble Monday, September 18th 2006, 08:49 GMT

Ernesto Viso is set to drive the third Spyker-Midland in Friday practice for the Brazilian Grand Prix.

The Venezuelan, who was a race winner in GP2 for the iSport team this season, has reached a verbal agreement with the team and his deal should be confirmed imminently.

Viso is looking at making the full-time step up to F1 next season but there are very few seats left available.

Midland have not yet confirmed who will drive their third car in the next two races, although there have been rumours that former Red Bull Racing driver Christian Klien could get an outing.

    Jon,

This is very cool. Do you think the Midland F1 shot is all for nothing considering he does not really stand a chance with an uncompetative team/car? Or...is the goal just to get noticed and hope a good teams picks you up the next year?

Ernesto Viso reminds me of Montoya... Very similar career path on both resumes...

    Karting
    Skip Barber
    British F3
    F3000

Why does he want to come to F1!?

Maybe he should just make a career advancement to NASCRAP!

Go hijack someone else's thread with your dribble. It's sad that you think you have some special gift to comment on everything racing related when I gather by your comments the closest you've come to actually racing anything is most likely a built by Fischer Price or Sony Playstation !
