Not really a new source for the story. The link you post goes right back to the original source that I quoted: Blick So Peter's statement really doesn't tell us much. All he said literally was that he was never told by Todt to do anything. Fontana never said he got the orders from Peter but directly from Todt.
Sorry tifosi12, Renault cheated and used illegal equipment! Mass Dampers were always illegal and were not in agreement with the rules that all teams signed up to at the start of the season When the FIA found out about their us by Renault, they were banned! Ferrari desrve to be put up on a pedestal and worshipped. Scuderia Ferrari, Jena Todt and Michael Schumacher have done more good for the sport than we can ever imagine!
not true, if they were ILLEGAL from the beginning then Renault would have had all their points removed but this was a technical clarification of an ambiguous ruling on mass dampers. When the clarification was completed the mass dampers were ruled out and Renault removed them. Ferrari and others had them so a ruling was always needed. This sport is about innovation so the designers have to come up with a competitive edge, try it out and then the FIA make a ruling as to whether it contravenes the spirit of the current rules (this will always be subjective and the root of most arguments). My wife as a newbie to F1 (15 years) still can't fathom the rulings even after an explanation from me who has followed F1 since the 60s. As Andreas says, this is about being a bastard, the meek do not inherit the championship
Tough Aussie standard. Somehow I think based on that the majority of Fchatters would be newbies. Mine doesn't care much for F1, but by sheer osmosis she has been to more places than many who really care. Including Monza, Spa, Nuerburgring, Fiorano and Morumbi cemetary to name a few.
bought mine 2 MS biographies for xmas last year .... didn't see her for 2 days until she had finished both books I'm not a fan of MS but do respect his ability and most of the other drivers, incredible car control just to keep it in a straight line !!
Why the FIA did not take away Renault's points is beyond me. The ruling clearly stated, as has been posted in previous threads that the Mass-Dampers, were in clear violation of the rules that Renault and other teams signd up to in the beginning of the season. People like Fontana, Alonso, and Flavio only open their mouths when they see their goals being accomplishd by someone else. Flavio cannot stand Jean Todt and I have a disticnt feeling that Alonso and Fontana absolutely hate Michael Schumacher. News flash Fontana and Alonso. You will never be even 10% of the racer Michael Schumacher is! News flash Flavio. Jean Todt is a better team leader than you can ever dream of!
if the ruling was SO clear they would have lost points, they didn't , get over it ..and Nuvolari was 10 times the racer MS is, he fought for every position and won races he had no right to
How does that work? There is a right to win races? Besides, it only makes sense that Todt talks to Sauber when the title is directly at stake. Back then, those teams were tied together and you don't win the title by being ethical, but by being quickest around the track within the margain of the rules. When budgets of hundreds of millions of dollars are at stake, the ethical question isn't really the question that needs answering.
Nuvolari is a legend... he is the greatest racer of his time and is only second to Michael Schumacher. Ferdinand Porsche called Nuvolari "The greatest driver of the past, the present, and the future." Michael Schumacher is the only exception to that! Michael Schumacher is the best racer there is, the best racer that ever was and the best racer that ever will be!
Fully agreed. Now tell that to Imperial83 and his "Renault is unethical. Ferrari is ethical!" banter.
Ferrari issued team orders when they were legal! Renault cheated by using equipment that was illegal as per the rules agreed upon by all teams at the start of the season! Staying within the margins of the rules is the important factor here!
Right now, you have a team called BMW Sauber. Like in Peter Sauber. Who just made a lot of money selling himself to BMW, his new sugar daddy. I see no reason at this pont in time to doubt Peter Sauber when he was quoted the other day as stating that he never was given any team orders by Jean Todt or Ferrari to do any blocking at any time. With all the back stabbing that goes on in F1, if the blocking order were true, Sauber would be on a soap box acknowledging the fact. At this point, he has nothing to lose. It is amazing that all of this crap suddenly is made known now that Schumacer is retiring. 99% jealousy, 1% fact.
As I said, I believe Sauber when he says he didn't get the order from Todt. Fontana said he got the order straight from Todt, not from Sauber. So it could have happened (and probably did) without Peter lying. BTW: The original Blick article I quoted also mentions how many times Todt run straight to the Sauber pitbox everytime a Sauber was about to be lapped by a Ferrari just to make sure those cars would immediately get out of the way. Not illegal, not unethical, but goes to show that the Sauber team really was Todt's biatch, err B team. PS: Glad to see you picked up my sugar daddy comment in the corse clienti thread.
What is kinda funny is that I had no idea who Fontana was until I read the article. I mean I cared about the Sauber team to some degree, but really all but forgot about the guy. I do find the story intriguing as it gives us a glimpse into the inner workings of F1, but certainly not because of Mr Fontana.
I am hoping to be a sugar daddy someday. Just waiting for that young nubile red head with natural mammary glands.
