Richard Hammond has taken his first steps following Wednesday's high-speed car crash.

The Top Gear host stunned family and friends just 30 hours after the accident, in a scene witnessed by co-star Jeremy Clarkson.

Clarkson told The Sun: "In the wee small hours Richard Hammond suddenly sat up in bed, opened his eyes and asked what had happened. 'You've been in a car accident,' I said. 'Was I driving like a t***?', he asked, before getting out of bed and walking, shakily, to the lavatory.

"Despite all the odds, it seemed we'd got our Hamster back."

A spokesman confirmed: "His condition has definitely improved. He is stable and making good progress."

    Go Hamster!

Great news but the downside is that the producers of Top gear are considering canning the series.

And canning the series?! Look, motor racing has always carried risks, but that's no reason to chicken out. Ask the Hamster, he'll tell you.

Thanks goodness! Was i Europe and they were showing detailed pics of the car's travels off the runway and bits of the vehicle after the incident. Truly hope he recovers fully.

Agree with others, driving a car (in general) has risks and those risks are heightened every time we drive at speeds on a track.

Go Hamster and my blessings are with you.

thats what i was worried about. TG is just awesome, compared even to 5th gear. but, we all know that as soon we step into a car, on track/road....there's always risks. u can even lose ur life with just a blown tire.

If that quote from Jeremy is true about what the hamster said when he woke up, then he is my new hero :)

I'm guessing "twit" or something like that. Twit is like a jerk. Tart is a prostitute. LOL!

I was thinking it was Ti*s...like driving like a girl or something...but it didn't fit in the sentence, so I was confused.

but I guess maybe it could be t*at?

    Anyways...again, excuse my ignorance:)

    Glad to hear it.

I hope they don't cancel the series though. Even though we don't get it here in the states.

The word is twit spelled with an a. Not nearly as rude in England as the US, but then lots of things don't translate. In the US fanny is a politely humorous term for bottom, but in England it's an impolite humourous term for a woman's naughty bits. Don't go around patting Englishwomen on the fanny! Or do....

    On topic, get well Hamster!
