The QP cops flak for the transmission, but my M5's gearbox isn't exactly perfect either. I'm happy with the M5 but whenever I see a QP I have a twinge of regret. As Goober says, there is no poverty pack QP - so it wins for prestige. The BMW is a great driving car, but it looks too plain and is a hotted up version of a mid ranked sedan. I've had no reliability problems in 19,000km though.
Not at all...they are actually a little below average in weight for their respective ages, although they are tall...as is their mother...
I agree with that 100%...the QP does have a more sophisticated look about it than the M5...although the M5 does look a little more racey...I would have went with the QP had Maserati offered free service including the clutch like BMW does and the back seat had been a little bigger...I could have lived with the Maserati reliability issue if pressed as I do have other cars to drive if necessary...I would have missed the 8250rpm wail of the M5 V10 though!
You really need to look again...the specs of the M5 and QP clearly show the M5 to have more head, shoulder and leg room...even so, the QP outside rear sides are fine...its the lack of head room in the center rear seat that was my issue...that being said, I wouldn't want to ride for long in the back seat of either car...
Sure did,we took San Vicente to 7th ,going from Bel Air to Santa Monica and Dustin Hoffman kept driving side by side with us in his light green A8,constantly checking the Qp. We finally ended up at the same restaurant.(Giorgio Baldi)
This is one of the most ridiculous things I've ever read on the internet, I'm sorry. Officials drive Tauruses and Excursions in America, but we all know those aren't exactly the best cars on the road.
well...if you need real trunkspace...the qporte wont cut it... and as far as resale value goes...the M5 is one of the best in the biz...of course aside from an f430 or enzo that is...hehe...
Two very attractive options. However, performance wise the M5 plays in another league as far as engine and handling are concerned. The QP plays the part of the stylish limousine, the M5 is a real sports sedan.
its not that ridiculous given the Italian PM has style, and dont apoligise for your own politicans' misgivings, BTW i didnt realize dubbya was driven around in a taurus i always thought it was Prius given his stance on the greenhouse effect!!!!!
I admire your patience Why even answer to such an unpolite weirdo that probably hasn´t had 10% of your experience with upscale cars?
Funny, EVO magazine in the UK get faster lap times with the QP than with the M5. Too much hype surrounds the M5.
i was gonna mention that article, however it seems some here are of the opinion the M5 is a better vehicle because it is German........which aint always accurate
parkerfe's listed cars in his profile: "Personal Ferraris: 1982 BB512i Wanted Cars: 250GTE or 365GTC/4 Other Cars Owned: 2006 BMW M5; 2005 Infiniti QX56; and American Ironhorse LSC chopper Previous Cars Owned: 328GTS; 400GT; TR; 330GTC; 348 Spider; ViperGTS; Porsche993;FiatSpider;C4Vette;M3;and more" AR1, what is your definition of upscale cars? i dont even see any car that is above $100,000 he currently owns. now sure how long his experience with upscale cars are. TR and ViperGTS? or the FiatSpider?
now let`s not be hasty You should read a little bit more about the handling of Quattroporte , even around a twisty track compared to M5. Let me tell you a little secret : in the worst scenario the they get the same , under normal circumstances the italian it`s faster. (you know ? transaxle and stuff)
I am up to a challenge with any non-professional driver QP owner out there. The BMWCCA has a driving school at Road Atlanta coming up Oct 6 to 8...we can see who turns the fastest lap time...the slowest pays for the other's driving school costs...regardless of the QPs fine Italian roots, there is no way two cars that weigh about the same with the QP having 400hp and the M5 500hp that the 400hp car will win...I've driven the QP on more than one occassion and it sure doesn't feel as fast as the M5...
Are you implying that a car has to cost more than $100k to be classified as upscale? If so, that rules out ALMOST all MBs, BMWs, Audis, Jags, Lexus, Porsches and even Maseratis as only the QP or maybe GS? cost more than $100k.
do you have a link to this article? were both cars run at the same time, equivalent track conditions? even though i love the QP and am fairly indifferent to the m5, i would be very impressed if the QP could outrun an m5 on any track! not doubting, just would enjoy reading the article...
They prefer the CLS 55 to the QP and the M5 http://www.evo.co.uk/cargrouptests/cargrouptests/67221/maserati_quattroporte_v_bmw_m5_v_mercedes_cls_55.html#
