I've seen the GTO body kits that replace the entire rear section of the car (for about $5K!), but doesn't anyone make just a simple fiberglass repro of the engine lid only? It seems like such a no-brainer piece for someone to make, and "should" also be somewhat inexpensive. (Of course the word "should" and "inexpensive" are a tough combo with the word "Ferrari.")

I have a Lotus Europa and the engine lid is, of course, fiberglass, and it seems like it weighs all of 5 pounds, while the Ferrari lid seems like it weighs about 900lbs!!!

Does anybody make one? Have an old lying around in their garage?

If you find somepone who makes them let me know via PM. Like you, i hate the weight penalty of the rear lid. Worse still, the weight is high(ish) up on the CG.

Many thanks, looks to be Rear Tail Gate (Engine Lid (Fibreglass)) £1950 and with the constant devaluation of the USD that puts it at around $3,700. Hmmm... a bit too rich for my blood right now but thanks as when my ship comes in i know who can fab it up :)

OoooooH - maybe that's why the scheckles are short :(

BTW - you didn't ask for cheap, you asked where ;)

How the hell are you anyway????

Maybe I'll just take the original to a boat guy in the marina and have him knock one off...

Spaceballs: the never ending search for more money ;)

    True.

Good! Just came back from spending nearly two weeks in Italy. Milan, Luca, Portofino and Florence. Yeah, life is rough ;)

Naaa, what i NEED is to give up on the 308 and get a nice open wheel spec racer. Spec means easy parts swap and relatively cheap to keep (by Fcar standards anyway). Turn the 308 into a nice grocery getter and beach car. Been debating engine mods and, frankly, spend THAT type of money on the 308 seems a bit too insane unless i blow up the engine or some such and she needs a rebuild anyway.

I tell you, Steve, I already had a couple cool street cars. My plan was to get a Lotus 61 vintage Formula Ford. $18K bucks, totally retsored, refreshed and ready to go. But then I saw this damn 308 - $20K with some track mods already done, but would still need some updating (meaning $) to make it track ready.

All I can say is: dumb, dumb, dumb!!!

I put way too much stock in having a race car that was street legal, and I'm realizing that for the car to work great on the track, it will handle horribly on the street. So looks like I'll have to buy that trailer afterall!!!

I bought it, so I'll fix it up a little, do some events in it and see what sticks. If nothing else, I'll have bought myself a cool Ferrari adventure, but I still have buyer's remorse bigtime not buying the Lotus.

Well, at least you had the chance and knowledge about the Lotus. i went in with good intentions for the 308... then wanted to track her a lot while keeping things street legal. Am now kinda 'paying the price.' Am right now debtaing getting a very complete package from a good guy who has a VanD. RF81 Formula Ford package with extra tires, drop gears etc.for $12k. It is said to do 0:56 or so at Lime Rock Park.

Something like this? Designed to use external fasteners so the whole bonnet can be removed quickly. In order to keep it light, you should not use the OEM mounting points as that will put allot of the weight back in the rear bonnet due to the bonnet would have to be re enforced with metal to mount to the OEM mounting brackets. This bonnet weights maybe 10 lbs or so.

Wow, looks sweet! What are the two rectangular ??cut outs?? towards the lower section?

Looks like it would fit my Euro as it has the two separate fin cut outs and no mating per US spec. And what is cost?

BTW: no matter how much i whine and moan about the 308 here, am seriously considering your blower setup. We need to talk :)

It's probably too much for me, but I'm interested too.
