nah...hotting up is that was done to those WRXs and GTRs yesterday. springs? brakes? exhaust? not much more than a safety issue in comparison.

    anyway...point is...i said i haven't hotted up my car...and, once again...i haven't!

    and...don't insult me!

PP - do you run 'R' compound tyres? That's certainly going to be a major improver of lap times over the 10 o so years since your car was built, even in your skilful hands. To get the most out of modern tyres it's certainly worth looking at spring/damper/tracking etc changes if you are chasing that last few tenths. I would venture to suggest that quite a few keen track day people would do that, even on Fcars. I guess it depends if you call that 'modification' or 'optimisation'. Anyway, good on FF for bringing the car out here and being prepared to use it. We should be encouraging more people to get out in the older cars and enjoy them on the track. I always think that enjoyment is much more of a reason that having to have FTD, but I'm not so fussed about the trophy hunting. It's not really that different to Concoursing either, is a near new Ferrari that is pulled apart, repainted, polished etc etc 'modified' or 'optimised'?

BTW - the rest of you lot should be in bed by now and leaving this to the West Australians, who seem to win everything anyway...:)

I "love" deleting all the posts :(

the funny thing is some people don't realise that I can delete faster than they can write and if only some of them knew how close to a permanent ban they were from the other mods.

ok...well if that's the sort of thing you call "hotting up" then fair enough. Nevertheless, phil jumped on me (i think i enjoyed it) when i said i haven't hotted up my car. this is true, as any mods to it were done before i got it. afaik though, the only "hot" bit is the motec, otherwise it's just challenge stuff with softer springs.

If you had seen me being overtaken down the straights by those GTRs and WRXs, you'd know what hotting up REALLY means...or if you'd seen tony's TT 355 last time...you'd know what hotting up is.

as for the last few tenths....i'm SO far from getting the last few tenths that it just doesn't matter.

I can go from full hard shocks (can't move the car) to full soft (bounces like a RR) and everything in between and it makes no difference to my lap time. pretty much sums up my ability i reckon.

    Thanks guys.

While FAR from perfect, BB's are truly a car that "awesome" is an appropriate term for..

In the early/mid 70's.... they were king (when Elvis was too), and it still takes a serious modern machine to top them for outright speed.

and the sound.... AhHHH!, the sound.....

PLUS, the comfiest yet sporty seats I've ever sat in (for me), apart from a Renault Fuego (when new, not clapped out like A26 boy's!)

Mega cruise car. Just enough luggage space, and big enough fuel tank. (Bolox to fuel prices, who gives a rats about that really?)

all the above is O so true, one little problem drive up and down our great roads at 110k,I did it and it's a bore.with these new hoon laws I'm sorry to say but there fu..ed for us,sure you can put em on the track but the boxers true liking is fast long distance motoring.if i'm going to ser on the speed limit have to say its a modern car over the great boxer.

BAH! Other than needing a little TLC and mechanical sympathy, a BB is no less appropriate as any other supercar.

For sure, there's always niggles with an old car, but I'll continue to use mine lots.

I used it all through a winter in north London (while at DK) where I had to scrape ice off it each morning and pour hot water over the door seals/locks to open them where frozen! And I've used it through UK traffic and bumpy narrow country lanes without any more drama than anything else.

Ha ha.. if you knew how stiff std 355C springs were, and how ridiculous they are on bumpy tracks, you'd know that fitting (slightly) softer ones will result in a more tractable/driveable FASTER car.

I think insurance companies are the ones that really ought to decide whats "hotted up" or not....

If you can put hand on heart with total confidence that they'll pay despite having no cats, more power, suspension modifications... GOOD LUCK!
