    Hey guys.

I came across another potential deal in my search for a 360. I've consider some private sales and some dealer sales.

Question, if a dealer offers to put me on the list for a 430 if I bought one of their 360s, and I quote, "in about a year or two" I'll have a 430, should I take his word? He even said he will have me sit down with the manager to watch him input our name and spot into the "system".

Having read a bunch of threads with stories on how waiting on the list for a 430 means virtually nothing, should I have the dealer put it in writing? Anyone have any experience with such situations?

Hate to get dicked on the 430.

    Thanks.

If it ain't in writing it does not exist. Ask them to gaurantee you a car at a price.

Get it in writing that you'll get a 430(or the next replacement) at MSRP.

You must be aware that in late 2008 the F430 replacement should be released. Therefore, acquiring a F430 in two years from now should not be very difficult as there will be a higher demand on the replacement.

I would say most dealers already have every 430 they are going to get sold at this point. I doubt buying one used car is going to get you a new 430 at MSRP.

Because of the air bag issues it's written in stone that the 430 replacement will be late 2008 as an 09 model.

As the others have said, make sure you have it in writing, I'm sure they require a $10K deposit as that's what was required for my listed spot. Also, I believe if you're open to a manual car, you could have one even sooner. Good luck:)

Good question. I doubt you'll see anything hitting the US until late '09 or even '10. F is currently switching '07's for '06's to try to fill the pipeline. The exemption allows them a total of 2,000 cars apparently for '07 and '08.

Also inquire if you will get to "spec" your car. As it gets later, some people may spec the car yet not take delivery, thus you could get a "new" 430 but not order the car.

Edit: Also, define coupe/spider and f1/6sp if it is important to you.

It was stated directly by Ferrari in the paper to DOT.

I was told this by the Ferrari agent in Qatar when I bought my F430 and it will be either a F460 or F500. It will be released in late 2008 as the new 2009 model.

    It also makes sense.
    The 328 started in 1985 till 1989 (5 years).
    The 348 started in 1989 till 1994 (5 years).
    The F355 started in 1995 till 1999 (5 years).
The 360 Modena started in 2000 till 2004 (5 years).
The F430 started in 2004 and will continue to 2008 (5 years).

Ferrari release a successor nearly every 5 years.

Also, the F430 was released in 2005. So running the model to 2008 would mean only 3 years of production. Now 3 is A LOT less than 7.

Well, I guess it's about 6 years per model. There is always an overlap in the last and first production year of each consecutive model.

I checked my references to confirm the production years. The 360 was produced between 1999-2004, there was never a 2005 360.
I checked again the F355 and it was produced between 1994-1999 and the 348 between 1989-1994/early95. So, it's about 6 years per model. The F430 launch was in 2004. So if we apply the 6 year rule to the F430, it should continue to 2009, meaning it could be a 2009 production year produced after August 2008 and by late 2008 we could have the successor.

There are a number of F-Chatters with 2005 360 Spiders. Also, the very first F430 was a 2005 model, not 2004. Even if we assume 6-year model runs, the F430 successor would "normally" be a 2010 model. However, I do think the F430 will probably end up having a shorter than usual model run.

We are both right. The European LHD F430 was launched in September 2004 and sales started in November 2004. The US did not receive it's first shipment of F430's until the summer of 2005. That is why you only have 2005 F430 models in the US, whereas you will find F430's produced in late 2004 in Europe. Read this, it will help: http://www.wheelsofitaly.com/wiki/index.php/Ferrari_F430

The same applies for the 360. It was discontinued in Europe in August 2004, whereas you still received them until early 2005. The 360's produced late in 2004, i.e. in August or September 2004 are considered 2005 models and these are probably the ones you received in the US which are considered 2005 models.

"The Ferrari F430 is a sports car automobile, the replacement for the Ferrari 360. It debuted at the September, 2004 Paris Motor Show. European left-hand drive sales began in November, 2004, but right-hand drive sales did not start until Spring 2005, and the United States did not get the F430 until the Summer of 2005."

Most 360s found in USA for model year 2005 are January and February 2005 build date. Agree on your dates for F430 and I do think that we'll see a replacement in 2009.
