In car Video from the test will be up on 9/30: http://mondial2006.autojournal.fr/ Paris Auto Show Pininfarina PRESS RELEASE A new years wealth of riches The Pininfarina Ferrari P4/5, Alfa Romeo Spider and Ford Focus Coupé-Cabriolet is the star of the Pininfarina stand at the Paris Motor Show Paris, September 28 2006. Pininfarina is once again present this year at the International Motor Show in Paris with a range of products that reinforces its position as a tour de force in the automobile market. The collection sets out with the Ferrari P4/5 by Pininfarina custom-built for James Glickenhaus an American collector with a particular inclination for the legendary racing cars of the Sixties and a car that played a leading role in Pebble Beach Concours dElegance in August and which is making its European debut in Paris. The vehicle was designed, developed and built solely by Pininfarina transforming what had been, until a few months previously, a simple dream into reality. The route to the completion of this extraordinary model also witnessed a close relationship develop between the customer and Pininfarina. Taking the Ferrari Enzo as the point of departure, the aim was to create a vehicle that would be one-of-its-kind; inspired along the lines of a true sport racing car, not a simple show-car but a real car ready to take to the roads. Pininfarina has shown itself over a number of years now to be a real industrial strength to be reckoned with. This is well and truly backed up by the five new production lines set up between the end of 2005 and 2006: the Alfa Romeo Spider, Mitsubishi Colt CZC and Ford Focus Coupé-Cabriolet where we also dealt with the design and development, and the Volvo C70 and Alfa Romeo Brera - where we were also in charge of the engineering. The Ferrari P4/5 by Pininfarina allows us to bring our creativity to the forefront, and propose to special customers the full extent of our know-how that reaches into customers dreams and desires, and far beyond the desire to simply build a vehicle of their own. explained Andrea Pininfarina, Chairman and CEO Pininfarina S.p.A. Andrea Pininfarina went on to add: Indeed, the engineering involved in its construction is that normally associated with a production line vehicle: hence functionality and performance once thought of as being unthinkable in a one-off vehicle is here guaranteed. This is amply demonstrated in the tests we recently ran at our CERAM circuit in Paris. The new Ford Focus Coupè-Cabriolet is the latest example of the fruitful partnership between Ford and Pininfarina in the Cabriolet market (after the success debut with the Streetka model). The model was designed and developed in close cooperation with Pininfarina, and the latter is in charge of the entire production line at its plant in Bairo. This vehicle is a clear example of the direction being taken by Ford in terms of style and engineering. It is an automobile that is both elegant and exhilarating and yet a pleasant drive day-in day-out, combining practicality, quality construction work and maximum comfort for all four passengers. Last but not least, the new Alfa Romeo Spider was developed by Pininfarina in partnership with the Alfa Romeo Styling Centre and carried on the long tradition of Spiders designed for the legendary Italian automotive company. With its safety, power and unmistakeable fascinating charm, the Alfa Spider marks yet another step ahead in the field of open top vehicles a market segment that has always seen Alfa Romeo play a leading role. Assembly of the Alfa Spider takes place entirely in the Pininfarina plant in San Giorgio Canavese, which has been completely restructured and updated with the most cutting-edge industrial automation available. It seems appropriate that here in Paris, I remind ourselves of our acquisition of Matra Automobile Engineering in 2003, which went on to increase turnover tenfold in just three years. Furthermore, we should not forget the strengthening of our position in Germany as supplier of high added-value engineering services through the acquisition of MPX Gmbh (with more than 100 staff in Munich, Bavaria). The inter-exchange of activities and experiences between our centres (Italian and French) concluded Andrea Pininfarina, will allow us to increase profitability throughout the entire engineering sector. And that is not all. Interaction with the design division and the two production centres will increase overall group efficiency and profitability. Coming home from Paris Show Thank you Jim Some Ferrari chatters said that you are a gentlemen: actually I know why! What a nice car! I spend one hour just looking the details of your creation the quality of a Veyron with the race heritage of the nicest Ferrari ever built, the P3/4 thats 612 P4/5. I will post some pictures of the show: Ferrari P4/5 http://img176.imageshack.us/my.php?image=dscn2235wj8.jpg http://img176.imageshack.us/my.php?image=dscn2231ae8.jpg http://img56.imageshack.us/my.php?image=dscn2182ua7.jpg http://img176.imageshack.us/my.php?image=dscn2172ac0.jpg http://img56.imageshack.us/my.php?image=dscn2170ef7.jpg James and Piero Ferrari http://img56.imageshack.us/my.php?image=dscn2152bj1.jpg http://img176.imageshack.us/my.php?image=dscn2151us9.jpg http://img56.imageshack.us/my.php?image=dscn2143pv2.jpg http://img233.imageshack.us/my.php?image=dscn2136lj0.jpg
@Jon I, personally, would be amazed if there were no connections to the P4/5 in a future model. Though it is extremely unlikely that we will see a couple hundred of Jim's exact car, I do believe something with a similar feel is just over the horizon. Even if Jim does know, I wouldn't think he would be at liberty to tell us, even if he wanted to. Peter Hatch

Dream car wows Paris One lucky guy commissioned Ferrari to create his dream car and it's on display at the Paris Motor Show. http://uk.cars.yahoo.com/02102006/60...n-paris-0.html Monday October 2 With no new models on display on Ferrari's own stand in Paris, it was interesting to see how much attention the P4/5 supercar received across the walkway on Pininfarina's display. This car is a one-off, but you can't help but wonder if Ferrari is just a little tempted to do something similar. Unlike many show cars, this one was designed to be driven. It is a one-off in so much that an American collector (presumably with bottomless vaults of dollars) approached Pininfarina and commissioned the company to help him make his dream Ferrari. Jim Glickenhaus is the lucky backer and his car takes very obvious cues from the Ferrari 330 P4 of the late sixties. He has poured untold millions into this project, as the P4/5 is now a road legal car built to US Department of Transport regulations with all new components tested via computer simulation. I suspect that the interior lighting of the Paris Show hall did the car no favours, but it still managed to look sensational, much more like a concept car than anything that you would expect a car maker to produce. However, Ferrari is said to have given the project technical backing and no doubt will be interested in looking closer at the all carbon-fibre skin too. The rest of us may never get a chance to sample such a car, but we have to say thanks to Mr. Glickenhaus for even allowing us to see it up close and personal.

What an experience - Paris was wonderful!! It was a pleasure meeting you Jim and AGAIN I'd like to thank you for making it possible! P4/5 was amazing, spent the first 4 or 5h of the show at the Pininfarina stand just looking and looking and looking... couldn't get enough! And then my first time in a Ferrari ever - and what a Ferrari to start of with! It was a dream come true for me - the Ferrari community is so fortunate to have someone like you!.. although it seems as if you're doing all this at a cost to yourself - seems as if its spent more time being shown around than being enjoyed by you. So.. hope you fix that soon Then the Paris Show was amazing too - absolutely loved the 8C and R8. And to finish my stay off, just as I was boarding my coach... a Veyron drove by on Place de Concorde! Probably was a funny sight - me giving the ticket with one hand to the driver, checking all the details and maniacly trying to turn on the camera a get a pic before it drove off (unfortunately it didn't come out).
What an honor. Jim deserves this more than anyone. Your willingness to share your passion with the world is unprecedented, and for that I am very very grateful. I guess the car is nice too. Peter Hatch
P4/5 is a featured story on Top Gear. http://www.topgear.com/content/features/stories/2006/10/stories/06/1.html And to Mr G., You sir are a class of gentleman not often seen now a days. My Thanks.
"We don't own history, history is to share" (JG, September/October 2006). I am putting this statment right up there with that one about "think not what your country can do for you.........." James, I find it so incredible that you have given all of us such memories. You allowed hundreds, maybe thousands of automotive tifosi to be part of this creation. Truly the making of history. When I was standing there in Pebble Beach, looking at this magnificent automobile, I felt I was in a totally different dimension, so unreal. I would be so bold as to suggest there is no one else on the face of this earth, with the means to bring birth to such art as the P 4/5, that would have so unselfishly allowed strangers into their lives, their psyche, and made us actually feel as a welcomed part of this experience. As on a race car, yet invisable, we each have our names on the sides of P 4/5 as sponsors. We didn't provide any money along the way, but I know most of us provided the applause and the gratitude. I am glad I got to meet you.
I think, of all the thanks we have given, this is the most soundly articulated gesture of gratitude towards all of this project. I second this! FORZA FERRARI!!!!! -Jon
