Stock Z06 starts in 2nd gear at 30 mph, putting its RPMS at 2,200 rpms. F430 also has an aftermaret exhaust on it. Here is the video: http://www.m5board.com/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=81471
Ha Ha, Dude you are going to catch a lot of flack over here for posting that. The funny thing is I just watched that over on the M5 board and came over here to see if it got posted yet.
How do you know being in 2nd didn't help his time? One less shift. Was the F430 F1 or stick? Cool video but taken w/ a grain of salt. No way to tell if either driver is driving the car to potential or at all.
These type of videos do get old after a while..but the Z06 and F430 are both remarkable cars. I wouldn't mind have either in my stable.
With that, you guys should sell off your pastaburners, thereby flooding the market and enabling me to purchase one.
I appreciate the information. I own a Ferrari 360 (with a 430 due in December) and a new Z-06. I race vettes, against both Vipers and Ferrari 360's. A new SCCA class will pit new Z-06's, Vipers, and Ferrari 430's which should make life interesting. As someone who actually races these cars, I can tell you I would rather race a Z-06 than a Ferrari, all things equal. Feedback from the vette is better and raw power is available when needed. With that said, nothing beats the pleasure of owning a Ferrari. A big difference exists between drivers of Vipers, Corvettes, etc. and owners (I use the words intentionally) of Ferrari's. I suspect the majority of Ferrari owners , except for "safe" track experiences, never really drive their cars (all due respect to those few "drivers"). Most enjoy owning them, parading them, and watching others watching them. So, who cares. They really keep their value and what is life all about if you can't realize the dream? Anyone in a position to choose has most likely (with some noteworthy exceptions) deserved the right to enjoy whatever they have earned - no harm done. Let's always be willing to share information. Ignorance is not bliss! Keep it coming - good bad and ugly.
I did not post this vid to talk about which car delivers more driving pleasure and/or excitement. We all know a Chevrolet is not a Ferrari. This video proves one thing, and that is, stock vs. stock (Which wasnt even the case, F430 was modded), driver for driver (Again, not the case since the Z06 was in the wrong gear), the F430 can not out accelerate a Z06. No more, no less. That is all. If I had a choice, I'd take the F430, of course.
A few questions and comments: Looking at the video I don't see where you can confirm the Z06 is stock and the 430 is modded. Do you know something more then the video is showing? With the Vette in 2nd gear at 2200 rpm's, again where does that show in the video? If in fact the vette is starting at 2200 rpms, it is not a negative as one might think...the vette has around 330 lbs of torque in that range. If the 430 started around 2200 rmp, with its lack of torque (in that range), a Honda Civic would make a 430 look bad for the first 1/2 mile. There is a video showing (on youtube) the same black vette is seen smoking a red Ford GT...strange that that could happen with the GT having close 600 "true" hp vs a Z06's 530 hp. I know the Z06 is very fast, 455 - 465 rwh (520-530 flywheel) and it weigh's in around 3200 lbs (150 lbs lighter then the 430)... it should be faster. But, I just can't say that the video made by the vette owner is showing all the facts. Atbs, Chev made a hell of a car in that price range but I would still pay the prem dollars for the 430.
The 430 weighs 3150, the Zo6 also weighs 3150. According to Road and track the 430 is faster both 0-60 and in the 1/4 mile. Edit: Also that video sucked.
I wouldn't pay the kind of premium that F430s are going for. I'd rather get a 355 and get a Z06 done up by Lingenfelter. Now those are a HELL of a car.
Video was made by a respected member of corvetteforum.com. He's not that great or experienced of a racer which is why he started in second. He beat a modified M5. 997TT and a Gallardo like this.
There is no doubt that modern Corvettes are a very fast car. There are many very fast cars to choose from these days. You do not drive a Ferrari. I am in them between 5 and seven days a week. Week in and week out. Having teenagers pull along side in whatever to race got tiresome 25 years ago. Due to the nature of my job and the nature of the way I drive when I am in my own I have no doubt that many thought I was racing when I was not. I am sure I have been responsible for many such stories of My ****** beat a Ferrari today. Most of my clients over the years have suffered under no delusions that theirs was the fastest car on planet earth.. nor do they care. Whether they drive fast or slow, spend much time at track events or at a concours they have a Ferrari because it makes them happy for what it is. They did not spend hours agonizing between the purchase of a Ferrari and a Corvette. So please understand when the response is less than positive when yet another person (usually a teenager) comes here and proclaims "My (fill in the blank) is faster than your Ferrari". Few really care.
so what else is new? Another pathetic attempt by vette owner trying to validate their existance, meanwhile desperately wishing they own a 430. Video proves squat. No way does a vette walk away as stated if the 430 is driven properly. I'm willing to wager my house on that.
Oh the arrogance. Simply pathetic a Ferrari owner(if you are) trying to validate his. I sold my Ferrari to buy a Z06. Smartest thing I have done in a long time. I've driven a couple 430s and they are significantly slower. I'm in Dallas for anyone with a 430 that wants to find out. And don't wager your house on it. You don't want to be homeless.
Then why are you still on this board? Just bad taste to come on 430 forum and say how a vette (with one hand tie behind its back) can beat a 430. Especially from a guy named C6Z06. I assure you won't find any immature ferrari owner doing the same on a vette board. I'll take that wager anyday, seriously.
Every car magazine that has tested both (Road and Track, Car and Driver etc.) seems to disagree with you, but speed isn't everything.Vettes are great, but its still just a chevy. Just my thoughts.
