ahhh *** racing .... I mean drag racing put them on a track or a road (read:with bends and stuff) and we`ll have fun watching 7litres os muscles struggling to keep up with the master
Gary what did the weight come out to? Also Ferrari is getting much better about Stats than they were in the past.
Dude read my post, I am the one who said the Z06 was tested faster than the 430 in the majority of the magazine tests. Who gives a 5hit what some guy gets on the street, that is your opinion. I believe what instrumented testing says rather than "Billy joe in that Z06 there beat Todd in his Murci" Dave Hill than Corvette Chief, said himself the car they targeted performance wise was the 996TT.
I read a story about some guy with a Honda Civic with a turbo on it running 35 PSI of boost that beat a Z06! Buying the Civic tomorrow, anyone know where I can buy a turbo kit?
I know about a VW Golf that would make the Z06 look like an old Volvo. The tuning firm is in Sweden and called dahlbacks racing. Would that suite you =)I´ve seen that Golf on track, it´s sick, almost 1k hp...
I am lucky enough to have both a C6Z06 and a Stradale. The Z06 may be faster but not as much fun to drive. The total experience of a Ferrari -the noises, steering feedback as well as handling make for a MUCH more exciting and sensual ride. Unfortunately the maintenance and repair costs are totally absurd . I guess "you play you pay."
I beg to differ. It has 50 more hp than the standard Murci. That's still not enough to give it a power to weight ratio that is better than the Z06s. And the all wheel drive system on the Murci robs 25% where the Z06 is at about 14%. I've seen QT times at about 11.6@123. Stock Z06s are running 11.3@127 currently. The LP 640 is like the Gallardo SE. Slightly faster than the Murci.
I think that evaluating a car on pure 0-60 or 1/4 mile time is meaningless. Other things go into making a great car. Looks, sound, quality build and interior, acceleration, braking, handling etc. Why are cars judged strickly on 0-60 times? I can stuff a huge motor into a 85 Camaro and have great acceleration times. Does that make it better than a ZO6 or F430?
Sorry, my bad. I was referring to the Daihatsu I rented in Utah that had trouble maintaining forward motion over Parleys summit. My kids Razor scotters are slow, Daihatsu as well as other motorized vehicles are very fast. To prove it just try running (on foot) and see if you can keep up. BT
Who the hell cares about these stupid drag races.... there is a lot more to a car than the 0-60 time and the top speed.... this stupid attitude is why NASCAR is so popular here in the States. I have Corvette and my dad has a 360 Spider, with mods I can beat him in a drag race, but the cars are night and day.... the build quality on my Vette is terrible, my plastic dash is starting to fall apart already, whereas the interior and everything else on the 360 is stunning. The Vette is a fun car no doubt, but to say it's better is just ignorant, there is a reason the price difference is so much.
Very true. That's reason I had such a hard time selling my 355. I almost cried the day they took it away. Very special car in so many ways besides performance.
Im surprised no one has (seemingly- I did not read every word of every post above though I did read many) pointed out that the race here was a rolling start and to my eyes dropping the Z06 into its tree pulling 1st gear to gain power at the start would probably cause wheel spin and traction control if it was activated and therefore there would be no point in taking the car out of 2nd to start. It is a terrific car (Z06) and I'm glad they are making it- a serious bang for the buck proposition, but I am not canceling my F430 order. A great time to be a car nut. best regards, Jerry
Let me add my 2 cents worth into this conversation. I have owned 7 Vettes (including an 02 and 06 Z06), not to mention an 05 SRT10 viper, Porsches, etc. I traded my 06 Z06 in for a 360 Spider 6 speed. I think if you take into consideration what makes a car great (looks, performance, fun to drive, trackablility, technology, reliability, ease and cost of servicing, lasts forever, etc) the newer Vettes are one of the best cars in the world. As far as performance, my stock Z06 ate a 430F1 easily once I hit 120mph. It was not close because there is so much torque in gears 1 through 5. All of this being said, FOR ME the driving experience in any Vette (the viper was crap) cannot compare to driving experience of the 360 Spider. The Ferrari is so much more precise, has an interior that looks and feels so wonderful, and the sound of that engine behind me is just intoxicating. I never turn on my radio. In the Z06 the entire driving experience is power. In the Ferrari, it is so much more and because of that, pure raw power is secondary. Two great cars...two different driving experiences...but at this time in my life, I will take the Ferrari experience over anything else, and, at the same time, respect all others.
boy oh boy oh boy! I left the Porsche Rennlist board becuause of the 'mine is faster than yours' arguments...what a yawn those Porsche 'boys' were! I am on the market for my first ever F car - have settled on a 360 Spyder Manual (non-F1) and I sure hope these Porsche 'boys' have not found their way here. So what IF another car is faster, cheaper etc. You get what you pay for...SPEED is not everything I look for in a car... My views are... 1) The value is what one makes IT. 2) Faster is not always better! 3) 'Boys' buy tricked Fords etc not an F car 4) grow up for God sake! Enough of the 'boys' stuff and let us all have FUN! ...just my 2 cents worth...
