It's a shame they're selling the car and don't even know what it's hp really is.

First of all, you don't list crank horsepower unless you specify... second of all- its not 1001 hp, it's 1001 PS. It really only has 987hp....

Might as well atleast know that.

The car has both 1001hp and 1001ps -- Bugatti officials have stated on several occasions that the reason they don't have to show a difference between those two standards is that the car actually makes around 1100 hp, so 1001 is an understatement regardless of the standard.

If the car had 1100hp, it would have 1115ps... I'm sure you know that if theres money that can be made, money will be made..

Tell me exactly, what advantage is there to market a car and quote lower performance figures?

i wouldn't be surprised if they could get upwards of 1.5 mil for the car, especially in that area, lots of "new money"

Thats very true, and having seen this car in person (didnt realize it was for sale at the time), its amazing. Also, they apparently have the demo gray LP640 for sale as well, the one in most pics.

Here is a quote from Car and Driver "The production engines are all putting out between 1020 and 1040 PS—enough to cover both promises." http://www.caranddriver.com/previews/10108/bugatti-veyron-164.html

"...produce 1001 horsepower (now rumored closer to 1100) at 6000 rpm and 922 pound-feet of torque between 2200 and 5500 rpm."
And they list the price as $1,440,800.

They know enough to put together a multimillion dollar business with several profitable, successful exotic car dealerships.

Do tell, at the ripe old age of 19, just how much have you accomplished?

They are so stupid you must be doing very well indeed.

Each veyron is going to produce slightly different power levels. It is essentially hand made.

For a 250hp car the normal factory variations are around 10hp per motor one way or the other

For a car of the Veyrons levels that # is going to be more along the lines of at least 50bhp differences between each different car.

horsepower is not a performance figure, it is a measure of torque at rpm.

At 19, you haven't learned much about marketing, or the mindset of the million dollar car buyer. It matters not one wit if it's 987hp or 1001hp. The 1001 is like "11" - just a hair over 1000. Its a marketing number. It's a number that's so excessively large, plus one, that it doesn't need to be analyzed and quoted as if it was the distillation of what the car is all about. The car will produce more or less due to temperature, altitude, motor heat soak, gas quality and many other factors.

In short, it just doesn't matter and it's not incorrect or false to quote 1001hp.

You'll do well as an engineer, focusing on the details and forgetting about the big picture (thats not meant as an insult)

I have seen this car in person and spoke with a LLV rep about the car. I'm not sure if I'm at liberty to disclose the price of the vehicle, but it is significant. It's over 1.5, but under 2.

I've also seen (and heard) their LP640, and WOW. Very killer.

Well, I must not have accomplished as much as you, atleast in the way of personal attacks. Do you measure success by wealth or moral fiber? ...says the poor college student.
