Couldn't find this pic in a search, but saw it at a mechanics shop - old Ferrari 126/C4 in a photo op outside of the Ferrari distribution center in Cypress, CA back in the 80's (no longer there).

Wonder if it is a serious picture. My guess is no, the cop would have had no chance! :D Thanks for sharing that picture.

Looks like Arnoux busted by a US cop. This being the C126 C4, that would make it 1984. Maybe it was a promo shot for the Dallas F1 GP?

Funny regardless. And yes Rene would have simply outdriven the cop. Unless of course he run out of fuel. Very common in those days...

I'd say you’re dead on. It was that race, that man, and that car that turned me into an F1 and Ferrari fan. I even have a poster of him driving it. I'd gotten it from the Ferrari of Dallas parts department back in the 80s.

Scary thing is not only are his (Rene) feet in front of the front wheel center line but that thing's only an aluminum honeycomb monoqoque. Just imagine driving that inside the concrete barriers in 100+degree heat with the track beginning to come apart at some corners and having over 700hp available with no limited slip or drivers aids. Oh, and you have a clutch and you have to use the shifter sitting off to the right.

    Ahhh... those were the days.

I remember a shot from Cavallino many years ago of a similar scene. Gotta find that.

I remember a few years ago seeing the video to go with these two pictures. I think Steve Harris Imports (Auth Ferrari dealer) had something to do with it, all pre-arranged with the cops as some promo thing or something. The video was on the net somewhere, ask me to find it not sure where i'd start.

Actually, I'm pretty certain the 126C4 did have a carbon-fiber tub, and that the previous year's 126C3 was the first F1 Ferrari so equipped. That the 126C2 did not was probably a contributing factor to Villeneuve's death and Pironi's career-ending injuries.

Ahhh come one it was in the mid-80's that this picture was taken. Couldn't have had a motorola on him. They were the size of cinderblocks back then!

It depends on how you look at it - the report I read said Villeneuve's belts ripped out of where they were anchored. Who knows what could have happened when you have a car flipping at high speed combined with the astronomical G-forces that go with that.

True. If he hadn't been thrown out of the car, he most likely would have broken his neck. Some things are just not survivable.
