I say, no we don't. http://money.cnn.com/2006/09/28/news/companies/gm_hummer/index.htm?cnn=yes Important part: "General Motors Corp.'s Hummer brand needs to double its product line-up by adding two or three more models, the executive charged with GM's product planning told reporters on Wednesday. "Hummer needs some more products. It needs two or three more products to give it sufficient market coverage," General Motors Vice Chairman Bob Lutz told reporters at the opening of a Hummer dealership in Paris. Hummer H3 Lutz said making a Hummer-branded pickup truck, which would have ample passenger seating, remained an "option." Earlier this year GM (Charts) faced pressure from activist investor Kirk Kerkorian to consider spinning off Hummer, which began as a high-mobility vehicle produced for the U.S. military. But GM executives have argued that the brand is central to the automaker's strategy as it moves to cut costs, shore up market share and return to profitability in the U.S. market. Sales of Hummer were up almost 50 percent in the first 8 months of this year. By contrast, GM's overall sales were down 12 percent." Make an H0 hummer thats like the H1 but comes with guns and spiked wheels. Then I'll get excited!
They'll probably come back with an H4. You know, basically an H1, but advertise the 4 as 4 place seating. n00bs
how about the hummer 10 a smart car with a body kit sadly now that the H1 is dead that all hummer are GM Trucks (Yukon and Cayon) with body kits me and my Dad were look at them and the work to even metal to damage quickly and look like crap when it does. I will still love GM if they kept making CTS-V and Z06 but hummer suck
I love Hummers. But holy crap, GM is going to screw this up. Lets look at GM's product line. What car do they have that, can compete with the likes of Honda, Toyota..etc? GM needs to focus less on gas guzzling suv's and needs to go to the drawing board and build a good car.
An exec comes up with a brilliant idea like this and people still have the audacity to claim American Manufacturers are out of touch.
What will all those union factory workes with high school and ged's do if the plants go under. I don't want more people on welfare to support when I get out of school. And I'm really not trying to be a jerk, but I am afraid that is what will happen.
Hummers are by far the most stupid thing GM has invested in to date. They can't see that it is ugly? Or that it is larger than anything on earth should be? Take the hit, and only sell to the Army, the guys who don't care how bad it looks as long as it works. Peter Hatch
Well, that's the attraction with the Hummer, isn't it? If doesn't look effete like a lot of other 4 X 4 I could mention. They look like butch vehicles, macho, etc... Those who are into 'aesthetics' would rather have an Audi Q7, a Volvo X90 maybe, a Range Rover Sport, or a Porsche Cayenne, and worry about the scratches on the paint when they go off-road if they ever do. Hummers are like Wranglers, rugged and no-nonsense 4 X 4s. They would sell more in Europe if only they fitted Diesel engines and manual gearboxes. On the old continent, the mentality for serious off-roaders is that going all-terrain and automatic is just not compatible.
I think the new 2007 Jeep Wrangler Unlimited looks sufficiently the part of "tough" for the macho suburbanites, and probably has more real capability than the H2, H3, H4whatever does . . .
All evidence to the contrary. Unlike almost anything else offered by GM, Hummers actually sell. They are a money maker. While you and I may think they're ugly, the H3 is flying off the lots. Hummer pickup? They'll sell a million of them. The Hummer brand has been gifted with beautiful market timing and will continue to be a success barring anything but $5.00 gas. Lutz is no fool(other than being a Lamborghini freak) and he's headed in the right direction. Frankly, I think it would be in GM's best interest to slash and burn the majority of their brands. Any brand/model that's languishing on the lot...scrap it. Focus on the sellers, spiral into the resulting bankruptcy/government bailout and come out leaner, meaner and with tens of thousands less dead weight employees and benefits due on the other side.
Tyler hit the nail on the head. Hummer has been one of the very few bright spots in GM's lineup. Hummer sales (due largely to the H3) have shown significant increases this year and the division is making money.
Lutz is no dummy. They are talking about smaller Hummers, not H2 and larger. He wants a pickup truck based of the H3 (pictures are out on the net on what it might look like), and a direct competitor to the Wrangler. Unfortunately, the people that have the "bash GM" switch set to "auto" read this and assume the worst.
The H3 already competes with the FJ. Car And Driver did a test a while back with the H3, FJ, Grand Cherokee and Xterra
