Coming home from the Bay Area this past Monday, my wife was driving it. She was going about 80 mph went we reached the Grape Vine. As we started to go up, she asked, “When should I down shift into 5th or 4th?” All I said was there is no need to down shift.

    Gee, a 550 is sweet.

    :)

All due respect, an NSX does the same thing with half as many cylinders.

yea, but an NSX isn't a Ferrari. Drive one and you will understand!

Only because it's geared low to compensate for the lack of torque. A 550 pulls like a freight train.

Looks like I need a little help with the quote thing.

Never mind. Here I am trying to decipher the arcane art of vB coding and there's this handy little quote button right in front of me! Blame it on BCD (Becker Cognitive Disorder - a form of obsessive compulsive behaviorr characterized by the need to perrform simple tasks in the most convoluted, illogical way humanly possible. Thought to be caused by attempting to read an F430 Becker Infotainment System manual(s). Incurable.)

My 456 hits 90 just shy of 3,000 rpm. The 550 must do better than that. So, maybe 2.5 - 2.6k @ 80mph?

There is something to be said for having a car with a hell of a lot of grunt. A C6 Z06 pulled in front of the car directly ahead of me on the highway from a rest stop. I'm assuming he did not look to see two cars barreling down the interstate in excess of the posted limit, but either way him being able to go from 0-100 as fast as our cars could get from 85-0 probably saved all our lives. I must say, that car is a monster; while we were trying to stop I heard this wonderful growl and the car was gone.

Viper = beast. Driving my sister's Viper pretty much drew the line. My 240Z w/ 430hp 350V8 draws the line. There is nothing friendly about a beast. It is always lurching forward, rumbling beneath you, & smelling faintly of hot oil. 0-60 is in less than 4 sec is expected. Thats what I'm Talkin about!

If you mean not having precise control around corners, than yes the viper is more of a beast than the 550.

    The 550 (pre-2000) 0-60 of 4.2 certainly qualifies.

You should read all the posts, Mr. Foot-in-mouth.
He also has a F-car with 25% more cylinders too.

a really nice car with power and perfect ingeniering is the Gumbert Apollo from germany, I don t have the link but I can post this later... this car is available only in europe for now for around 250 000 dollars I think but the car is probably the best car on the market, the guy who build the car used to be the boss of AUDI COMPETITION... The car is lighter than a civic and with power plan between 650hp and 1000hp from a 4.2 V8 turbo from AUDI...

    Stefan,
What I said was an NSX also cruises up the Grapevine at 80 without downshifting. Obviously it's not as fast as a 550. Get some valium, some therapy or learn how to read.
