So the Ferrari F1 does 150 milliseconds per gear change in RACE mode for the Enzo and the CS. How about the F430? Is it any faster? Also, since BMW had their SMG M3/M5/M6 cars shift @ 80 milliseconds, has Ferrari improved upon their F1 transmission systems??

Interesting to note, the Bugatti Veyron's DSG system shifts gear in merely 20 milliseconds!! Regular Formula 1 cars shift @ 15 milliseconds (I think)..

    The F430 is 150 milliseconds.

I think the 599 is 3 milliseconds slower than F1 cars. So must be 18 milliseconds Im sure? :):)

I find it hard to believe that the F430 F1 gear change time is 150 milliseconds, since that was the figure published for the F360 F1 when it was launched.

Isn't the F430 F1 believed to be much faster in the changes?

There is no such thing as 'regular' F1 cars. They're all different, and they all change every year. I've never heard 15ms. The lowest figure I've seen is 20ms. Got an official source for the Formula 1 shift times?

Also, some of the quoted figures are questionable. What actually takes xx(x) ms?

    my understanding is-
    the 430 F1=150 msec
    the 599 =100msc
    Michael's F1=50msec's

With all due respect to all of us --- when is "our" next F-1 Race? Or, when could anyone on this board discern the difference between 100 and 150msec? May I be the first to tell you not me.

Some of us with superhuman powers are definitely able to discern the difference. I was accidentally trapped inside a grandfather clock as a boy when it was struck by lightning. Since then, I have gone by the superhero alter ego of Chronoman. I am able to sense even the most minute distortions in the space-time continuum. My F430 actually shifts at 149.87634789 milleseconds...but who's counting?

me thinks the 430 successor will have the 599 brains reducing shifts to 100 msec , they will drip feed the technology as always .

Shift speed of the street applications of the Selespeed (F1) transmission has never been limited by the systems ability. It has since the intro in the 355 been capable of being faster. It has always been a matter of choice on the part of the programmers. It has always been implied it was for the sake of the longevity of internal transmission parts.

Dog type transmissions in race cars can take much faster more brutal shifting operations.

lol, another one fooled by BMW marketing

80ms without clutching and declutching, the total time is around 200ms

guy that owns F430 and M6 said the gearbox in the F430 is way waster/better than the one in the bimmer

As for F1 cars the fastest time I read about was 30 ms , but anyway that`s a guarded secret , so the outsiders can`t know for sure.

    M3/M6/M5 = 80msc {Mode6}
"80ms without clutching and declutching, the total time is around 200ms" - If in mode 1 but there are 6 settings to chose from.
DSSG the dual audi clutch thing is suposed to do it in 20msc.

^^ you didn`t get it, do you ?

That was for S6 the fastest mode.

And besides speed , the Magneti Marelli electronic brain is way more refined than
    the german opponent.
Just read any article that has an F car with a sequential , say M6 vs Scaglietti, or F430 vs Lambo`s e-gear and you`ll see that all editors praise the finesse of Magneti Marelli.

Lambo's e-gear is a complete Magnetti Marelli system.

I have driven both. To be all honest you can't feel the difference in them unless you run in anything other than mode6 on the BMW gearbox. The SMG system is more forgiving than the Magneti Marelli system from what I have seen.

I don't always believe editors; they have biased opinions to what “they” like more. Try them out for yourself as that is the best test. Can you live with it or not is all that really matters.

Having driven the E60 M5 for a year now, I can say that S5 in P500Sport mode and S6 P500Sport mode are both incredibly fast. When driving in S6, thats with DSC off, its like a cannon going off with every shift.
As to who makes a quicker SMG box, who knows! I know my dad can beat up your dad though!!!!! LOL!
